Objective: To determine if oral lesions exhibiting bowenoid features reflect the diverse microscopic appearance and biologic behaviour of Bowen's disease and bowenoid papulosis of the skin and genitalia.
Study Design: Seven cases of oral bowenoid lesions (6 with follow-up data) were assessed for differences in histologic features, human papillomavirus (HPV) viral status, and selected immunohistochemically detectable cell cycling proteins (p53, WAF-1, Cyclin D1, Bcl-2) and were correlated with available follow-up data.
Results: Two histologic subsets were identified. One, which was believed to correspond to Bowen's disease, exhibited large numbers of transepithelial apoptotic bodies, dyskeratotic cells and mitoses (bowenoid elements), poor differentiation of background epithelial cells, and consistent HPV-16/18 positivity. The other, believed to correspond to bowenoid papulosis, exhibited few bowenoid elements, good background differentiation, and inconsistent HPV-16/18 positivity. One of the aggressive cases exhibited repeated recurrences despite apparent total clinical excision, whereas none of the other group recurred.
Conclusion: Although a small number of cases are in this study, results suggest that oral bowenoid lesions may exhibit histopathologic and behavioral variations ranging from oral Bowen's disease to oral bowenoid papulosis. Studies on more cases are needed to confirm this initial impression.

: Vulvar epidermolytic hyperkeratosis (EHK) is an exceedingly rare dermatological condition, often presenting as solitary or multiple lesions in the vulvar region. Due to its clinical resemblance to other vulvar disorders, such as condyloma acuminatum, Bowenoid papulosis, and squamous cell carcinoma, vulvar EHK poses significant diagnostic challenges. While individual case reports and small case series have documented instances of vulvar EHK, comprehensive studies systematically consolidating the clinical, histopathological, and therapeutic aspects of this condition remain lacking.

Papillomaviruses are small viruses able to cause disease not only in mammalians, but also in birds and reptiles. In recent years, a rising number of papillomaviruses have been identified in dogs and cats, totaling 24 canine papillomavirus (CPV) and six feline papillomavirus (FcaPV). The canine and feline papillomaviruses (CPVs and FcaPVs, respectively) are responsible for multiple lesions in these domestic species but the potential pathological relevance of some recently identified types remains to be determined.

Nine distinct papillomaviruses (Lambdapapillomavirus) have been described in domestic and nondomestic cats, but not in cheetahs. These viruses have been associated with cutaneous papillomas or plaques, bowenoid carcinomas, feline cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), feline sarcoids, and oral (often sublingual) papillomas. Fourteen cheetahs from the AfriCat foundation (Namibia) and one from the Ann van Dyk Cheetah center (South Africa) presented with sublingual lesions reminiscent of sublingual papillomas.

Background: HPV-associated oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is not well-characterized in the literature, and also has a clinical significance that is poorly understood.
Methods: We gathered a cohort of oral cavity (OC) SCC with nonkeratinizing morphology, either in the invasive or in situ carcinoma (or both), tested for p16 by immunohistochemistry and high risk HPV E6/E7 mRNA by RTPCR (reference standard for transcriptionally-active high risk HPV) and gathered detailed morphologic and clinicopathologic data.
Results: Thirteen patients from two institutions were proven to be HPV-associated by combined p16 and high risk HPV mRNA positivity.
