The psychometric characteristics of the Faces Pain Scale (FPS) were evaluated in three groups of preschool and school-aged children (3. 5-4.5; 4.5-5.5 and 5.5-6.5 years, respectively). The FPS was adequately comprehended by even young children. It was easily administered and was valid and discriminating. It did not, however, possess the linear scalability claimed by its authors.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) ketorolac and IV morphine in the management of severe vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) in children with sickle cell disease (SCD).
Method: An open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted from January 2021 to July 2022 wherein children with SCD aged 3 to 15 years, presenting with severe VOC (score > 6 on the Wong-Baker Faces Pain scale) were included. Block randomization with minimization was done and participants received either IV ketorolac (intervention) or IV morphine infusion (standard).

This study explores the question whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) can outperform human experts in animal pain recognition using sheep as a case study. It uses a dataset of N = 48 sheep undergoing surgery with video recordings taken before (no pain) and after (pain) surgery. Four veterinary experts used two types of pain scoring scales: the sheep facial expression scale (SFPES) and the Unesp-Botucatu composite behavioral scale (USAPS), which is the 'golden standard' in sheep pain assessment.

Background: Nasal septal abscesses (NSA) necessitate prompt recognition and management to prevent morbidity and long-term sequelae. To date, no comprehensive review of NSA alone has been conducted.
Objective: To conduct a systematic review of the presentation and management of NSA and determine patients at risk of sequelae.
