A rapid course of Wegener's disease with a sudden sensorineural hearing loss was described. The definitive diagnosis was established post mortem.

Descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM) is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition characterized by the rapid spread of infection within the mediastinum. This severe form of mediastinitis poses a significant challenge to clinicians due to its aggressive nature and potential for rapid deterioration. In this case report, we present a challenging case of descending necrotizing mediastinitis in a 39-year-old patient with persistent pyrexia and an extended hospital stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), cardiothoracic unit (CTU), and surgical intensive care unit (SICU).

Osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) is a rare complication associated with rapid sodium changes, typically encountered in patients with severe hyponatremia. ODS in patients with normonatremia (ODSIN) is less recognized. We describe a patient with MRI-detected ODSIN following neurotrauma and reviewed the relevant literature.

Two methods dominate the way that zebrafish larvae are euthanized after experimental procedures: anesthetic overdose and rapid cooling. Although MS-222 is easy to apply, this anesthetic takes about a minute to act and fish show aversive reactions and interindividual differences, limiting its reliability. Rapid cooling kills larvae after several hours and is not listed as an approved method in the relevant European Union directive.

The prevalence of hepatitis B virus infection remains high in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), constituting a public health problem in view of the fatal complications it causes, notably cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the situation of viral hepatitis B in the DRC and in particular its implications for public health.
