Cystic masses of the spleen: radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Many focal splenic lesions may appear to be cystic at cross-sectional imaging. In this article, the following types of cystic splenic masses are discussed: congenital (true cyst), inflammatory (abscesses, hydatid cyst), vascular (infarction, peliosis), posttraumatic (hematoma, false cyst), and neoplastic (hemangioma, lymphangioma, lymphoma, metastasis). The key findings at ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging can be correlated with underlying gross and microscopic pathologic findings. Although tissue sampling is still required in many cases to yield a definitive diagnosis, recognition and understanding of the spectrum of imaging and pathologic features of these lesions often help narrow the differential diagnosis.

Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS) is a rare uterine malignancy that causes non-specific symptoms which presents more typically in younger women compared to other uterine sarcomas. Preoperative diagnosis of myometrial LGESS is challenging, as it is frequently mistaken for a benign uterine mass, such as a degenerating leiomyoma. Despite its rarity, the imaging findings of LGESS are highly variable, complicating the diagnostic process.

A cystic lateral neck mass in adults represents a major challenge, as it can be difficult to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions. The incidence of carcinoma in initially benign treated neck cysts is estimated to be as high as 24%. The objective of this study was to ascertain the malignancy rate of cystic cervical masses and to provide a differentiation of cervical metastases in comparison to benign cervical cysts, utilising current guidelines.

Methods A total of 407 patients who underwent dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE)-MRI and pathological examination (gold standard) at the Department of Radiology,Central Hospital of Wuhan between May 2017 and December 2022 were enrolled in this study.Two radiologists performed the O-RADS MRI scoring of adnexal masses according to MRI features and calculated the malignancy rate of adnexal masses by O-RADS MRI score,enhancement type,and mass type.
