Aqueous solutions containing 200 mg/dm3 of p,p'-DDT and methoxychlor were photodegraded for 60 min in UV/TiO2/O2 system and chloride ions concentration and pH were measured. From 60 to 80% of the investigated pesticides were eliminated after treatment. Over 27% of chlorine atoms were splitted off for methoxychlor and 10% for p,p'-DDT. The experimental data suggest, that chlorine atoms were removed from the -CCl3 moiety but the chlorine atoms bound to aromatic ring were left intact at this step of photodegradation.

-Butyl hypochlorite was employed as a versatile reagent for chlorooxidation of indoles, chlorination of 2-oxindoles, and decarboxylative chlorination of the indole-2-carboxylic acids. Four types of products including 2-chloro-3-oxindoles, 2,2-dichloro-3-oxindoles, 3,3-dichloro-2-oxindoles, and 2,3-dichloroindoles could be selectively obtained in moderate to excellent yields by switching the substrates. Various synthetically useful functional groups, such as halogen atoms, cyano, nitro, and methoxycarbonyl groups, remain intact during the reactions.

Ruthenium dioxide (RuO2) is a benchmark electrocatalyst for proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE), but its stability during the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is often compromised by lattice oxygen involvement and metal dissolution. Despite that the typical synthesis of RuO2 produces chloride residues, the underlying function of chloride have not well investigated. In this study, we synthesized chlorine-containing RuO2 (RuO2-Cl) and pure RuO2 catalysts with similar morphology and crystallinity.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials hold great promise for the next-generation optoelectronics applications, many of which, including solar cell, rely on the efficient dissociation of exciton into free charge carriers. However, photoexcitation in atomically thin 2D semiconductors typically produces exciton with a binding energy of ~500 meV, an order of magnitude larger than thermal energy at room temperature. This inefficient exciton dissociation can limit the efficiency of photovoltaics.

Familial dysautonomia is a debilitating congenital neurodegenerative disorder with no causative therapy. It is caused by a homozygous mutation in ELP1 gene, resulting in the production of the transcript lacking exon 20. The compounds studied as potential treatments include the clinical candidate kinetin, a plant hormone from the cytokinin family.

Organic-inorganic hybrid lead halides have been extensively studied due to their outstanding physical properties and diverse compositional elements. However, environmentally benign tin-based hybrids with remarkable flexibility in bandgap engineering have been less investigated. Herein, we report the successful design and synthesis of three tin-based organic-inorganic hybrid compounds through precise molecular modification: [Me(i-Pr)N][SnBr] (), [MeCHCl(i-Pr)N][SnBr] (), and [MeCHBr(i-Pr-Br)N][SnBr] ().
