Children who fail to develop postural skills within a normal time scale are prescribed special seating to position them appropriately. For children to derive benefit from such seating, they must use it at home as well as in therapy sessions. A study was undertaken to explore the opinions of therapists and parents concerning the effectiveness and acceptability of a sample of special seating available on the UK market for young children. Each of the ten chairs selected to represent the range of possible styles and features was tested by 12 or 16 children in their homes (total sample of 40) for a week each, and four therapy centres for a fortnight each. Results obtained from these two populations were compared to determine whether chair features considered useful differed when used in a therapy centre or family home. Parents' rating for overall usefulness was affected by their perception of the child's comfort, as well as the child's posture, the level of support the chair offered, and other factors. Therapists' response, in contrast, seemed to be mainly influenced by the quality of posture children achieved in the chair.

The secondary near-infrared region (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) offers a noninvasive and light-controllable treatment option for deep-seated cancers. However, the development of NIR-II photothermal agents (NIR-II PTAs) that possess the desired properties of high molar absorption coefficient (ε), fluorescence quantum yield (QY), and photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) remain a challenge due to the contradiction between radiative and nonradiative processes. Late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD) includes patients from 1 year of age to adulthood. The vast heterogeneity in clinical manifestations and disease progression is not fully explained; however, a short disease duration and a young age seem to be good predictors of a better response to treatment. We sought to clarify the interface pressure (IP) and its variation by applying Biflex16, a calibrated bandage, to the lower leg. In Study I, 50 participants applied a bandage to the lower leg of a single subject in two ways: first, with 50% overlap, while the calibration rectangle became a square (Application 1), and then with 50% overlap without intentional stretch (Application 2) which served as a control. In Study II, another 51 participants applied the bandage to their lower leg via Application 1.

Hoffmann syndrome, a rare manifestation of hypothyroid myopathy in adults, is characterised by muscle weakness, stiffness and pseudohypertrophy. Here, we report the case of a middle-aged man who presented with progressive weakness in proximal muscles (in the form of difficulty in climbing stairs, rising from a seated position, combing hair and lifting objects) and leg swelling for 6 months. Physical examination revealed pseudohypertrophy of calf muscles with pronounced symmetric weakness in proximal upper and lower limbs.
