: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent among obese individuals and can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Bariatric surgery is known to induce significant weight loss and may improve NAFLD. This systematic review uniquely synthesizes current evidence on the effects of bariatric surgery on intrahepatic fat content, measured by magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF), and assesses study quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS).

Excessive alcohol consumption is among the leading causes of hospitalisation in high-income countries and contributes to over 200 medical conditions. We aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of alcohol use disorder (AUD), describe the distribution of AUD in ICD-10 discharge diagnosis groups and ascertain any relationship between them in secondary care. The study group was a retrospective cohort of adult patients admitted to Nottingham University Hospital (NUH) between 4 April 2009 and 31 March 2020.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver, excluding excessive alcohol consumption and other known causes of liver injury. Animal models are often used to explore different pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic targets of MASLD. The aim of this study is to apply an artificial intelligence (AI) system based on second-harmonic generation (SHG)/two-photon-excited fluorescence (TPEF) technology to automatically assess the dynamic patterns of hepatic steatosis in MASLD mouse models.

Background: The triglycerides to Apolipoprotein A1 ratio (TG/APOA1) holds promise to be a more valuable index of insulin resistance for the diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aims to evaluate the correlation between TG/APOA1 and MAFLD, as well as compare the efficacy of TG/APOA1 with triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in identifying MAFLD among individuals with T2DM.
Method: This study consecutively recruited 779 individuals with T2DM for the investigation.

The novel diagnostic term Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) requires at least one cardiovascular risk factor for diagnosis. While the relationship between gallstones and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) has been debated, the association between MASLD and gallstones remains unclear. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore this relationship using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2017 to 2020.
