Front Pediatr

January 2025

Henan Provincial Institute of Medical Genetics, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, People's Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China.

Objective: Our study aimed to collect fetuses with recurrent 1q21.1 deletion or duplication syndrome for systematic clinical phenotype analysis to further delineate the intrauterine phenotype features of the two reciprocal syndromes.

Methods: Prenatal samples, including amniotic fluid and chorionic villus samples, were obtained by amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling at our center, respectively.

Restoring natural killer cell activity in lung injury with 1,25-hydroxy vitamin D: a promising therapeutic approach.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, An-Najah National University, Nablus, Palestine.

Background And Aim: NK cells and NK-cell-derived cytokines were shown to regulate neutrophil activation in acute lung injury (ALI). However, the extent to which ALI regulates lung tissue-resident NK (trNK) activity and their molecular phenotypic alterations are not well defined. We aimed to assess the impact of 1,25-hydroxy-vitamin-D3 [1,125(OH)D] on ALI clinical outcome in a mouse model and effects on lung trNK cell activations.

Cystic degeneration (CD) in the liver is a cyst-like lesion composed of one or more pseudocysts lacking lining cells, occurring spontaneously in rats older than 12 months, with a male predilection. In this study, 32 CDs were identified in 23 out of 104 non-treated, control male Sprague-Dawley rats from two combined chronic toxicity and carcinogenicity studies with agrochemicals. They were examined histologically, histochemically, and immunohistochemically to assess the pathogenesis and pathological significance of CD, focusing on pseudocapillarization in aged rat liver.

Background: Lungs of people with Cystic Fibrosis (pwCF) are characterized by chronic inflammation and infection with P. aeruginosa. High levels of IL-17 A and F have been observed in sputum of pwCF and the interleukin-17(IL-17) family (A-to-F) has been suggested to play a key role in CF pulmonary disease.

Objective: Although studies have examined changes in C-reactive protein (CRP) during pulmonary exacerbations (PEX) in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), few have evaluated CRP profiles across age groups. Here, we characterize age-related CRP responses to PEX treatment.

Methods: We measured CRP concentrations at the beginning and end of intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapy for PEX in 100 pediatric and 147 adult PwCF at 10 US CF Centers.
