Zinc finger (ZF) domains in retroviral nucleocapsid proteins usually contain one histidine per metal ion coordination complex (Cys-X(2)-Cys-X(4)-His-X(4)-Cys). Visna virus nucleocapsid protein, p8, has two additional histidines (in the second of its two ZFs) that could potentially bind metal ions. Absorption spectra of cobalt-bound ZF2 peptides were altered by Cys alkylation and mutation, but not by mutation of the extra histidines. Our results show that visna p8 ZFs involve three Cys and one His in the canonical spacing in metal ion coordination, and that the two additional histidines appear to interact with nucleic acid bases in p8-DNA complexes.

To implement a neuromorphic computing system capable of efficiently processing vast amounts of unstructured data, a significant number of synapse and neuron devices are needed, resulting in increased area demands. Therefore, we developed a nanoscale vertically structured synapse device that supports high-density integration. To realize this synapse device, the interface effects between the resistive switching layer and the electrode were investigated and utilized.

All crystal structures containing nitrate ions, water molecules and one of the rare earth (RE) metal atoms (La-Lu, Y, Sc) were extracted from the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database. The composition of the identified compounds is analyzed in terms of the number of coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules and nitrate ions. Among the resulting compounds, several isotypic and morphotropic series are observed.

Previous studies have indicated the great performance of electrooxidation (EO) to mineralize per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in water, but different anions presented in wastewater may affect the implementation of EO treatment in field applications. This study invetigated EO treatment of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), two representative perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs), using porous Magnéli phase titanium suboxide anodes in electrolyte solutions with different anions present, including NO3-, SO42-, CO32- and PO43-. The experiment results indicate that CO32- enhanced PFAS degradation, while NO3- suppressed the degradation reactions with its concentration higher than 10 mM.

This study synthesizes a novel three-dimensional (3D) porous coordination polymer (CP), {[Co(L)₀.₅(H₂O)]·NMP·H₂O} (1), via a solvothermal method in a mixed solvent of water and NMP (1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone), reacting Co(II) ions with H₄L (1,4-bis(5,6-carboxybenzimidazolylmethyl)benzene). The CP exhibits unique fluorescence properties, emitting at 420 nm under UV light excitation at 350 nm, and serves as a carrier for Mesalazine (MSZ) in therapeutic applications.
