Article Synopsis
  • Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) contributes to higher risks of death and health issues in newborns, making it critical to identify its influencing factors.
  • * A study was conducted at three public hospitals in Northeast Ethiopia involving 353 women in labor to explore the factors associated with PROM between December 2022 and March 2023.

Uterine fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumors of the uterus, are relatively common in reproductive-age women, and are associated with increasing maternal age. This case study details a 37-year-old female patient who was incidentally diagnosed with a larger lower segment fibroid during her first pregnancy scan and responded well to treatment, delivered by a cesarian due to transverse lie and lower uterine segment fibroid completely obstructing the birth canal.

Background: Babies born via caesarean section in low-income settings face a higher risk of early-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS), which has greater mortality than late-onset sepsis. However, maternal factors contributing to EONS among caesarean-delivered babies in these settings, including Uganda, are not well documented. We determined maternal factors associated with EONS among term babies delivered by caesarian section at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH), southwestern Uganda.

Article Synopsis
  • Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a serious condition that can occur during pregnancy, leading to high risks for both the mother and baby, but there’s limited research to guide treatment.
  • The article presents a case of a 36-year-old pregnant woman who suffered aSAH due to a ruptured aneurysm, where a Caesarian section was performed followed by aneurysm treatment, but complications led to her death within a week.
  • The authors suggest that a C-section before treating ruptured aneurysms is currently the safest approach for managing aSAH in pregnant women, despite the lack of comprehensive studies.
