HPV types are carcinogenic in cervical cancer. This view is supported by epidemiological and biological evidence. Knowledges of HPV gene expression, of natural history of cervical HPV infection and neoplasia and of tumoral antigenic expression have lead to develop two strategies for vaccine development: 1-Prophylactic vaccines of HPV infections. 2-Therapeutic vaccines aimed to control the tumor growth and even to cure the patient. After an update of natural history of cervical HPV infection, the different target of vaccine strategies. The first published trials will be presented.
