Clinical nurse specialists, family nurse practitioners, pediatric nurse practitioners, and pediatric nurses in schools, primary practice settings, and the emergency department are at the front line of caring for adolescents with asthma. By empowering adolescents, these health care professionals can reduce the cost of health care and morbidity for these patients. The purposes of this article are (a) to discuss adolescence and powerlessness and (b) to identify nursing interventions that can empower adolescents to adapt behaviors that will enhance the prevention of acute attacks and encourage preventive management of the disease process. The article will also discuss current nursing strategies used with adolescents to promote feelings of power and control of medications and treatment based on current national guidelines and the Roy adaptation model.

Grounded in Duda's integrated model of the motivational climate, the current study examined the hypothesized mediating role of motivation quality in the relationships between empowering and disempowering teacher-created motivational climates and indicators of quality engagement in secondary school physical education (PE). The hypothesised model was tested cross-sectionally and longitudinally in two separate samples of students. Data were collected via questionnaires measuring the motivational climate, autonomous and controlled motivation and indicators of engagement (enjoyment, concentration and boredom).

Introduction: A key factor influencing the duration of untreated psychosis is that young individuals typically do not seek help during their initial psychotic experiences. This online study aimed to explore the efficacy of preventive video interventions providing information on psychosis on the attitudes towards seeking mental health care among young adults from the general population.
Methods: Participants (N = 147) were randomised to one of the following online conditions: a short 3-min video of an empowered patient or of a psychiatrist describing different aspects of mental illness, a short control video or no video.
