The fact that Diabetes Mellitus has become one of the relevant health problems and is besides an important death cause in the world, has led to investigate mortality as produced by this pathology in the Province of Córdoba during the period 1986/1995. Death register because of Diabetes Mellitus for the whole province(for years 1986-1995) were obtained from the Stadistic Department of the Health Ministry of the Province of Córdoba. Brute and specific rates based on sex and age groups were determined from a total of 6.718 deceased (3,300 males and 3,418 females), evolution of the same and its relation with diverse variables such as instruction level, poor housing and U. B. N.(Unsatisfied Basic Needs). Result showed that death rate increased during the period Studied, 24.42/100,000 being the medium annual rate, with no significative difference between both sexes (P = 0.76 > 0.05). In relation to age, rates raised according to growing age, with prevalence of the masculine, in general from 45 years and onward, except for 1986, 1989 and 1995 years when feminine death rate is greater in the 75 years-old and onward group. With regard to the other variables considered, when comparing them with the social and economic development of each Department in the Province of Córdoba, we could infer that industrialization, urbanization and social and economic evolution of the same have a positive correlation with mortality caused by diabetes.

Bacteriophages (phages) are increasingly viewed as a promising alternative for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. However, the diversity of host ranges complicates the identification of target phages. Existing computational tools often fail to accurately identify phages across different bacterial species.

Background: Despite extensive studies of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic magmatic history of Svalbard, little has been done on the Paleozoic magmatism due to fewer available outcrops.

Methods: 2D seismic reflection data were used to study magmatic intrusions in the subsurface of eastern Svalbard.

Results: This work presents seismic evidence for west-dipping, Middle Devonian-Mississippian sills in eastern Spitsbergen, Svalbard.

Background: Beta-lactams remain the first-line treatment of infections despite the increasing global prevalence of penicillin-resistant/non-susceptible strains. We conducted a cross-sectional household survey in a rural community in northern Vietnam in 2018-2019 to provide prevalence estimates of penicillin non-susceptible (PNSP) carriage and to investigate behavioural and environmental factors associated with PNSP colonization. The data presented will inform the design of a large trial of population-based interventions targeting inappropriate antibiotic use.

The Role of Severe Vitamin D Deficiency in Predicting the Risk of Severe Exacerbation in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Int J Chron Obstruct Pulmon Dis

January 2025

Department of Emergency Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Background: This study aims to investigate the association between vitamin D levels and the risk of severe acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).

Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study with 636 COPD patients admitted for exacerbations between January 2021 and December 2022. Patients were categorized based on serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels: severe deficiency (<10 ng/mL), deficiency (10-20 ng/mL), insufficiency (20-30 ng/mL), or sufficiency (>30 ng/mL).
