Guided monocyte fate to FRβ/CD163 S1 macrophage antagonises atopic dermatitis via fibroblastic matrices in mouse hypodermis.

Department of Stem Cell Therapy Science, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, Suita, Osaka, 565-0871, Japan.

Macrophages are versatile myeloid leukocytes with flexible cellular states to perform diverse tissue functions beyond immunity. This plasticity is however often hijacked by diseases to promote pathology. Scanning kinetics of macrophage states by single-cell transcriptomics and flow cytometry, we observed atopic dermatitis drastically exhausted a resident subtype S1.

Folic Acid-Decorated Chitosan-PLGA Nanobiopolymers for Targeted Drug Delivery to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cells: Studies.

Technol Cancer Res Treat

December 2024

Department of Life Science Engineering, Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran.

Objectives: This study developed a drug delivery system (DDS) using folic acid (FA)-functionalized chitosan (CS) and poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanocarriers for targeted sodium butyrate (NB) delivery to leukemia cells (NALM6). The goal was to enhance NB's therapeutic efficacy while reducing its cytotoxicity to non-malignant cells.

Methods: FA-CS-PLGA nanocarriers were synthesized and characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

Interfacial hydrogen bonds induced by porous FeCr bimetallic atomic sites for efficient oxygen reduction reaction.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Catalysis-Energy, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dalian 116023, China. Electronic address:

Interfacial hydrogen bonds are pivotal in enhancing proton activity and accelerating the kinetics of proton-coupled electron transfer during electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here we propose a novel FeCr bimetallic atomic sites catalyst supported on a honeycomb-like porous carbon layer, designed to optimize the microenvironment for efficient electrocatalytic ORR through the induction of interfacial hydrogen bonds. Characterizations, including X-ray absorption spectroscopy and in situ infrared spectroscopy, disclose the rearrangement of delocalized electrons due to the formation of FeCr sites, which facilitates the dissociation of interfacial water molecules and the subsequent formation of hydrogen bonds.

Effect of polyethylene microplastic biodegradation by algae on their sorption properties and toxicity.

Chemosphere

December 2024

Department of Plant Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Biology, University of Bialystok, Ciolkowskiego 1J Street, 15-245, Bialystok, Poland.

Microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments constitute an ideal surface for biofilm formation, facilitating or hindering the transport of contaminants. This study aims to provide knowledge on the sorption behavior of high-density polyethylene (μ-HDPE) after algal degradation toward UV filters. Up to now, the oxidation of μ-HDPE using the microalga Acutodesmus obliquus has not been studied.

Supramolecular chirality has gained immense attention for great potential, in which the rational engineering strategy facilitates unique helical stacking/assembly, high chiroptical behavior, and prime biomedical activity. In this study, we reported a novel chiral organic donor-acceptor cocrystal based on asymmetrical components of benzo()naphtho(1,2-)thiophene (BNT) and 9-oxo-9H-indeno(1,2-)pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile (DCAF) that exhibited red emission using a simple solution approach. During the self-assembly, a kinetically controlled growth of polar solvent or substrate induction led to the chiral packing and helical morphology twisted by the cooperation of electrostatic potential energy and chirality.
