Some features of the vascular and glomerular pathology of primary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) are well recognized, but we describe novel glomerular ultrastructural changes that we consider to be pathognomonic of APS. Renal biopsies from eight patients with APS were examined by light and electron microscopy. All had anti-cardiolipin antibodies, and the clinical presentation ranged from fulminant multi-system disease to isolated proteinuria. By light microscopy, the hexamine silver stain showed a combination of glomerular basement membrane wrinkling and reduplication. By electron microscopy, redundant, wrinkled segments of basement membrane were accompanied by a 'new' straighter thin basement membrane adjacent to the endothelium. In two cases the presence of these antibodies was not suspected clinically, and there was no clinical history or evidence of a thrombotic microangiopathy. We describe a distinctive glomerular lesion that represents an unexplained form of endothelial injury in this syndrome.

: The key components of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) are endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes, and the capillary basement membrane. The BBB serves as the main barrier for drug delivery to the brain and is the most restrictive endothelial barrier in the body. Nearly all large therapeutic molecules and over 90% of small-molecule drugs cannot cross the BBB.

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is the most severe complication of chronic hyperglycaemi stimulates oxidative stress that changes the retinal basement membrane function and provokes neovascularization, macular edema and retinal detachment. But an oxidative-antioxidant biomarker assessment in ocular matrices, such as aqueous humor (AH) and vitreous, might show the oxidative stress (OS) status in the posterior segment. Here, we show a cross-sectional analytical study of 39 patients who had a vitrectomy and assess the levels of different oxidative-antioxidant biomarkers in blood, aqueous and vitreous humor in three groups: diabetes mellitus 2 (DM2) with PDR [DM(+)PDR(+)] ( =13), DM2 without PDR [DM(+)PDR(-)] ( = 13) and non-DM2 non-PDR [DM(-)PDR(-)] as the control group ( = 13).

To investigate prenatal muscle satellite cell (MuSC) development and the associated epigenetic modifications in yak. Here, we conducted morphological and protein co-localization analyses of fetal longissimus dorsi muscle at various developmental stages using histology and immunofluorescence staining methods. Our study observed that primary muscle fibers began forming at 40 days of gestation, fully developed by 11 weeks, and secondary muscle fibers were predominantly formed by around 105 days.

AS is considered the second most common cause of hereditary renal failure, exhibiting varied clinical manifestations across different lifespans. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical features and genetic profile of AS and to elucidate the genotype-phenotype correlation of AS.

Obesity is driven by complex molecular and tissue-level mechanisms that remain poorly understood. Among these, angiogenesis-primarily mediated by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A)-is critical for adipose tissue expansion but presents unique challenges for therapeutic targeting due to its intricate regulation.
