Objective: To investigate p53 protein expression and proliferative activity in imprints of tumor biopsies from superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder in relation to the histologic grade of malignancy and recurrence status.

Study Design: The study group consisted of 70 cases of superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. In order to investigate p53 protein expression and Ki-67 expression, an immunocytochemical avidin-extravidin complex technique was performed using monoclonal antibodies p53 D0-7 and proliferating cells correspondingly.

Results: Thirty-seven percent of superficial transitional cell carcinoma cases showed positive expression of p53 protein. No correlation was found between p53 protein expression and grade of malignancy (P = .45). p53 Protein expression was statistically correlated with a high Ki-67 labeling index (LI) (P < .001) and recurrence status (P < .001). Forty-seven percent of cases showed a Ki-67 LI > 25%. No correlation was found between a high Ki-67 LI and grade of malignancy (P = .703). A significant difference in high Ki-67 LI between recurrent and nonrecurrent tumors of the same grade (P < .001) and between recurrent and nonrecurrent tumors was found independently of grade (P < .001).

Conclusion: These results on cytologic material could provide useful information on the biologic behavior of superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder at the time of diagnosis.

This work researched the influence and mechanism of CD155 on hepatocellular carcinoma advancement. CD155 expression and its effect on survival of hepatocellular carcinoma patients were analyzed based on the GEPIA2 database. String software predicted the interacting between CD155 and CD96, which was further verified by co-immunoprecipitation experiment.

Objective: Endometrial cancers can be classified into 4 molecular sub-groups: (1) POLE mutated (POLEmut), (2) mismatch repair deficiency/microsatellite-instable (MMRd/MSI-H), (3) TP53-mutant or p53 abnormal (p53abn), and (4) no specific mutational profile (NSMP). Although molecular classification is increasingly applied in oncology, its role in guiding fertility-sparing treatments for endometrial cancer remains unclear. This study examines the prognostic role of molecular classification in fertility-sparing treatment and its potential to guide treatment decisions.

Objective: To isolate and quantify cell-free DNA, analysis for p53 mutations, and correlation with tumor burden in women with epithelial ovarian cancer compared with benign and borderline epithelial ovarian tumors.

Methods: In this case-control study, plasma samples of eligible women collected 1 hour before surgery and based on final histopathology, women with epithelial ovarian cancer recruited as cases and borderline, and benign ovarian tumors as controls. Cell-free DNA extracted from plasma serum and quantified using Nanodrop Spectrophotometer.

Position in proton Bragg curve influences DNA damage complexity and survival in head and neck cancer cells.

March 2025

Department of Molecular Genetics, Oncode Institute, Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Background And Purpose: Understanding the cellular and molecular effect of proton radiation, particularly the increased DNA damage complexity at the distal end of the Bragg curve, is current topic of investigation. This work aims to study clonogenic survival and DNA damage foci kinetics of a head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell line at various positions along a double passively scattered Bragg curve. Complementary studies are conducted to gain insights into the link between cell survival variations, experimentally yielded foci and the number and complexity of double strand breaks (DSBs).

Mechanofluorochromic (MFC) materials are emerging as a versatile candidate for optoelectronic and biomedical applications. In the present work, we designed and synthesized four MFC materials, namely BT-PTZ-1, BT-PTZ-2, BT-PTZO-1, and BT-PTZO-2, using Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. These materials possess benzothiazole (BT) as an acceptor moiety and different donors, including phenothiazine (PTZ) and triphenylamine (TPA), with variations in their spacer units.
