2D and 3D porous coordination networks (PCNs) as exemplified by metal-organic frameworks, MOFs, have garnered interest for their potential utility as sorbents for molecular separations and storage. The inherent modularity of PCNs has enabled the development of crystal engineering strategies for systematic fine-tuning of pore size and chemistry in families of related PCNs. The same cannot be said about one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymers, CPs, which are understudied with respect to porosity.

Controlled preparation of cellulose acetate by deep eutectic solvent homogeneous catalysis.

Carbohydr Polym

February 2025

Plant Fiber Material Science Research Center, State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China.

This work proposed a homogeneous preparation strategy of cellulose acetate by using a deep eutectic solvent consisting of zinc chloride/phosphoric acid/water (ZnCl/PA/HO). The results showed that the DES (the molar ratio of ZnCl: PA: HO = 1:1:3) had good solubility for bamboo pulp with high degree of polymerization. The dynamic dissolution behavior of cellulose in DES was also studied.

We have synthesized the first hydrous sp-carbonate by laser-heating Ba[CO], CO and HO in a diamond anvil cell at 40(3) GPa. The crystal structure of Ba[HCO][HCO][HCO][HCO] was determined by synchrotron single crystal X-ray diffraction. The experiments were complemented by DFT-based calculations.

Simple divalent metal benzoxides are reported as robust and efficient catalysts for lactide (LA) polymerisation. Following a "pre-stir" step to aid solubility, the best performing catalyst, Zn(OBn), gave quantitative monomer conversion in just 30 seconds and performed well under industrially relevant settings with high monomer loadings, bulk polymerisation conditions and non-anhydrous conditions using technical grade LA.

In phosphoric acid (PA)-doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) membranes designed for high-temperature proton exchange membranes (HT-PEMs), increasing the PA doping is essential. Yet, excessive PA doping causes a decline in mechanical strength, which in turn affects the cell performance. We utilize a strategy that integrates elevated PA absorption, increased mechanical strength, and enhanced PA retention.
