Background: Missed clinic appointments disproportionately affect Medicaid-insured patients and residents of socioeconomically deprived neighborhoods. The role of the recent telemedicine expansion in reducing these disparities is unclear. We analyzed the relationship between census tract (CT) poverty level, residential segregation, missed appointments, and the role of telemedicine.

The prevailing narrative in scientific literature has long overemphasized the role of ocular axes in intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, perpetuating misconceptions that have led to unnecessary exclusions of patients. Historical assumptions, coupled with inconsistent terminology and statistical inaccuracies, have muddled clinical decision-making. This review delves into these misconceptions, offering a critical reassessment of their relevance.

CT angiography of acute aortic syndrome in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Int J Cardiovasc Imaging

January 2025

Department of Clinical Radiology, AHEPA University Hospital of Thessaloniki, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

The term acute aortic syndrome (AAS) refers to a range of different entities, including dissection, intramural haematoma and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer. Patients with chronic renal disease and particularly those with dominant polycystic kidney disease are susceptible to this pathology, given the underlying renal arteriopathy and hypertension. Imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing, grading and guiding management of these patients, with computed tomography angiography (CTA) being on the frontline.

Mechanistic Insights into Amorphous Solid Dispersions: Bridging Theory and Practice in Drug Delivery.

Pharm Res

January 2025

Improving the bioavailability  of poorly water-soluble drugs presents a significant challenge in pharmaceutical development. Amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) have garnered substantial attention for their capability to augment the solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water-soluble drugs, thereby markedly enhancing their bioavailability. ASDs, characterized by a metastable equilibrium where the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is molecularly dispersed, offer enhanced absorption compared to crystalline forms.

PI3K/AKT/mTOR Targeting in Colorectal Cancer Radiotherapy: A Systematic Review.

J Gastrointest Cancer

January 2025

Medical Physics Research Center, Basic Sciences Research Institute, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran.

Background: Radioresistance is a major challenge in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and impairs the efficacy of radiotherapy. The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway plays a critical role in CRC and contributes to the development of radioresistance. Accordingly, targeting this signaling pathway may be a promising strategy to improve oncotherapy.
