Purpose: Following the relatively recent introduction of single-inhaler triple therapies in Japan, this study compared the effectiveness of switching from multiple-inhaler triple therapy (MITT) to once-daily fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol (FF/UMEC/VI) by investigating COPD exacerbations and adherence among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Japan.

Methods: This retrospective, pre-post cohort study using the Medical Data Vision Co. Ltd database identified patients with ≥1 inpatient diagnosis and/or ≥2 outpatient diagnoses of COPD at age ≥40 years prior to the index date (first/earliest date of single-inhaler FF/UMEC/VI initiation from May 1, 2019-February 28, 2022, following a switch from MITT).

Older Adults with Diabetes in Korea: Latest Clinical and Epidemiologic Trends.

Diabetes Metab J

March 2025

Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Internal Medicine, St. Vincent's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Korea.

Backgruound: Diabetes in older adults is becoming a significant public burden to South Korea. However, a comprehensive understanding of epidemiologic trends and the detailed clinical characteristics of older adults with diabetes is lacking. Therefore, we evaluated epidemiologic trends and the metabolic and lifestyle characteristics of diabetes in Korean older adults.

One of the widely used techniques for producing recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 2 (rAAV2) particles, as viral vectors for gene therapy applications, is the triple transient (TT) transfection of human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells. It is desirable to optimize this transfection process for more efficient manufacturing of rAAV viral vectors for gene therapy purposes. We examined the application of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as an additive to this transfection technique to improve the expression yield of rAAV2 particles with HEK293 cells in adherent and suspension cell culture modalities.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients are at increased risk for recurrence compared to other subtypes of breast cancer. Previous evidence showed that adiposity may contribute to worsened cancer control. Current measures of obesity, such as body-mass index (BMI), are poor surrogates of adiposity, while visceral-to-subcutaneous adiposity ratio (VSR), which can be measured from routine computed tomography (CT) imaging, is a direct adiposity measure.

Introduction: Long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) addition to inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting β-agonist (ICS/LABA) dual therapy is recommended for severe asthma, but its real-world effectiveness is not well established.

Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) to investigate clinical outcomes in US adults with asthma receiving ICS + LABA + LAMA as multiple-/single-inhaler triple therapy (MITT/SITT). Real-world/observational studies published in English in Embase/MEDLINE databases (2014-2024) and conference abstracts presented 2022-2024 were eligible for inclusion.
