Article Abstract

Patients who have undergone enucleation of the eye can be treated with glass eye prostheses, provided retention is adequate. Inadequate retention due to contraction of the conjunctival mucosa is a common problem which frequently affects the lower fornix first. This can be corrected using a free full-thickness buccal mucosa graft. Indications, operative procedures and postoperative results are presented.

Background And Aim: This work aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of free-hand endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) for duodenal subepithelial lesions (SELs).

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 105 patients with duodenal SELs who underwent free-hand EFTR. Free-hand EFTR means no other devices (over-the-scope clip or full-thickness resection device) are required.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent developments in wound dressings focus on natural bioactives like guar gum (GG) and gallic acid (GA), which can enhance healing compared to traditional materials.
  • The study created a GA-GG conjugate through a polymerization process, confirming its successful integration and beneficial structural changes via various spectroscopic analyses.
  • A polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) film made with chitosan showed strong antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, high swelling rates, and excellent wound healing efficacy, achieving 94.5% closure in comparison to untreated controls.

Managing wounds infected with multi-drug-resistant (MDR) bacteria remains a significant public health challenge in clinical settings. While multifunctional hydrogels are commonly employed to treat skin infections, there is a scarcity of hydrogels that effectively combine cationic guar gum (CG) with both potent antimicrobial and safe therapeutic actions. This study introduces a novel pH responsive, dual-dynamically crosslinked hydrogel (CFC-PDA/Ag), synthesized by crosslinking CG with polydopamine (PDA)-coated silver nanozymes (PDA/PM-AgNPs).

Proper oxygen delivery through the microvasculature to injury site is essential to ensure the metabolic cascade during wound healing. Adaptation of vascular structure and oxygenation is key to unravel the regulation of blood perfusion, oxygen distribution and new tissue formation. Yet, visualizing micrometabolic responses at large scale in unperturbed living tissue remains challenging.

Catechol-grafted chitosan-based antioxidant hydrogel with rapid self-healing property for wound healing.

Chronic wounds, particularly those with non-healing ulcers, show high levels of oxidant stress, such as excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), which delays the healing process. Bacterial infections in wounds increase the need for antibiotics, which brings up serious concerns regarding antibiotic resistance. The innovative antibiotic-free strategies to endow the hydrogels with antibacterial and antioxidant features including the grafting of ROS-scavenging moieties onto the hydrogel structure are in high demand for wound management.
