Oceanic protist grazing at mesopelagic and bathypelagic depths, and their subsequent effects on trophic links between eukaryotes and prokaryotes, are not well constrained. Recent studies show evidence of higher than expected grazing activity by protists down to mesopelagic depths. This study provides the first exploration of protist grazing in the bathypelagic North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW).

When 3 mg/kg PRT was injected twice intravenously to cats with acute cardiac ischemia, increased blood acid protease activity was inhibited and significant inhibitory action on the decrease of leukokininogen, the precursor of LK, was observed. Simultaneously, ST-segment elevation on the electrocardiogram tended to be suppressed and the lowered mean aortic blood pressure was significantly restored.

Effects of protizinic acid (PRT) on prostaglandins (PG) and the production of oxygen radicals were compared with those of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Oral administration of 30 mg/kg of PRT, indomethacin (IM), or ibuprofen (IB) significantly inhibited arachidonic acid-induced erythema in guinea pigs. Although 30 mg/kg of PRT significantly inhibited PGE2-induced erythema, IM and IB did not significantly inhibit it.

PZA and MZA were inhibited with heat denaturation in a similar manner seen with BSA and heat-induced erythrocyte lysis, and effects were more potent than indomethacin (IM). PZA showed inhibitory effects similar to MZA on ADP or collagen-induced platelet aggregation.

The ED30 of PRT in carrageenin edema with oral administration was 18.0 mg/kg and its potency was third following indomethacin (IM) and diclofenac sodium (DF), among the 15 agents tested.
