Pencil-core granulomas grow rapidly after a long incubation period, typically taking years to decades after penetration by the pencil core. However, colored pencil-core granulomas, which have different core components, have been reported to form just a few days after the core has pierced the skin. It is understood that this difference in incubation period is due to differences in reactivity to different types of foreign bodies.

Objectives: There is a paucity of data describing the frequency and complications of body piercing injuries (BPI) in the United States.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to identify emergency department (ED) visits for BPI from 2011-2020 and to estimate prevalence among US individuals ≤24 years of age. Additionally, estimates for infections, requirements for hospitalization/transfer, and exploring significant associations were investigated.

The presence of a foreign body in the heart have been reported, mostly in adults. Deaths and injuries can result from the breakage or rupture of angiography catheters. We present a case in which an angiocath tip was identified in the right ventricle of a pediatric patient, and the patient died as a result thereof.

In the event of migration, it may result in perforation, as shown in our unique case of pericardial perforation through the fundus. Beyond illustrating a rare condition, this case prompts us to engage in a debate about whether to retain or remove asymptomatic foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal tract.
