To improve the laser welding procedure, a comparative study was undertaken to investigate the acute bonding strength and the thermal damage following CO2 and Nd:YAG laser-assisted nerve repair, performed with and without the use of blood and/or albumin as a solder. The strongest welds were produced with the CO2 laser using albumin as a solder. Thermal damage was minimal with the CO2 laser, whereas the damage with the Nd:YAG laser was substantial. The high bonding strength combined with minimal thermal damage of the nerve following repair with the CO2 laser with the use of albumin justify further investigations using this technique in in vivo studies.

Since the widespread usage of plastic materials and inadequate handling of plastic debris, nanoplastics (NPs) and microplastics (MPs) have become global hazards. Recent studies prove that NPs/MPs can induce various toxicities in organisms, with these adverse effects closely related to gut microbiota changes. This review thoroughly summarized the interactions between NPs/MPs and gut microbiota in various hosts, speculated on the potential factors affecting these interactions, and outlined the impacts on hosts' health caused by NPs/MPs exposure and gut microbiota dysbiosis.

Aim: To explore the neuroprotective effects of high mobility group box 2 () knockdown on retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in the retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIRI).
Methods: Oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-injured RGCs from postnatal three-day C57BL/6 mice pups and high intraocular pressure (IOP)-induced RIRI mice were used as cellular and animal models of RIRI. The expression of HMGB2 in the retina of RIRI mice and OGD-injured RGCs was detected through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blotting.

Hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal development faces challenges due to the difficulty of stimulating fluid flow and heat-exchange fracture channels within deep, low-porosity, and low-permeability reservoirs. A liquid nitrogen cyclic cold shock method was proposed, using liquid nitrogen as a fracturing fluid. The large temperature difference between the liquid nitrogen and the hot rock induces thermal stress, forming a complex pore-fracture network.

Background: Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction accounts for the etiology of pain in 15%-30% of low back pain cases. Some patients with conservative treatment-refractory SIJ dysfunction undergo radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the SIJ for prolonged pain relief. This procedure involves placing up to 12 RF probes in what is an invasive, resource-intensive, and time-consuming process.

Background: Cardiac hypertrophy is a prevalent early pathological manifestation in various cardiovascular diseases, lacking effective interventions to impede its progression. Although oxymatrine (OMT) has shown potential benefits for cardiac function, its therapeutic efficacy and mechanism in cardiac hypertrophy remain incompletely understood. Notably, mitochondrial damage and dysregulated autophagy are pivotal pathogenic mechanisms in cardiac hypertrophy.
