A new kind of chiral dienophiles, cyclic vinyl-p-tolylsulfilimines (2a and 2b), were obtained from the corresponding (Z)-sulfinylacrylonitriles with HBF(4) and methanol. The asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of optically pure 2a with cyclopentadiene under mild thermal or catalyzed conditions afforded only the endo-4a adduct with complete endo and pi-facial selectivities. The ability of the sulfilimine moiety to enhance the dienophilic reactivity of the double bond is similar to that of the sulfinyl group.

Lymphedema, a severe and complex inflammatory disease caused by lymphatic system insufficiency and impeded lymphatic drainage that causes an enormous physical and psychological burden on patients and may even lead to death, has long been a challenging issue in the medical field. Clinically, conventional approaches including surgical treatment and conservative treatment have been employed for lymphedema therapy, but their curative effect is still unsatisfactory because of high operational difficulty, high cost, and long-term reliance. In this study, a novel kind of piezoelectric microneedle driven by ultrasound (US) is proposed to regulate macrophage polarization and remodel the pathological inflammatory microenvironment in a noninvasive manner, thereby promoting lymphatic regeneration and improving lymphedema.

Unprecedented circularly polarized luminescence bioimaging (CPL-bioimaging) of live cells using small full-organic probes is first reported. These highly biocompatible and adaptable probes are pivotal to advance emerging CPL Laser-Scanning Confocal Microscopy (CPL-LSCM) as an undeniable tool to distinguish, monitor, and understand the role of chirality in the biological processes. The development of these probes was challenging due to the poor dichroic character associated with the involved CPL emissions.

The influence of chiral materials on organisms is crucial. However, there is little research on the impact of chiral carbon dots (CDs), a kind of typical chiral materials, on biology. Herein, chiral CDs (L-/D-CDs) were synthesized using the thermal polymerization method from citric acid and chiral cysteine.

This paper explores how the examination of additively manufactured auxetic componentry can be applied in human-centred design settings with particular focus on biomedical products. Firstly, the design applications of auxetics are detailed followed by a review of the key problems facing practical researchers in the field with the treatment of boundary conditions identified as a key issue. The testing setup that is then introduced utilises a novel method of part mounting and facilitates optical analysis and real-time force-displacement measurements.
