[structure: see text] Dibenzylammonium (DBA+) ions thread through the cavity of tribenzo[27]crown-9 (TB27C9) to generate [2]pseudorotaxanes that are stabilized principally by hydrogen-bonding interactions. The stabilities and complexation kinetics associated with these pseudorotaxanes depend markedly on the nature of the substituents situated on the phenyl rings of the DBA+ ions. For example, the complex formed between TB27C9 and the DBA+ ion bearing electron-withdrawing pCO2Me substituents is stronger than that obtained from TB27C9 and the "parent", unsubstituted DBA+ ion itself. Furthermore, the "parent" complex equilibrates much more rapidly with its uncomplexed components than do the complexes generated from TB27C9 and substituted DBA+ ions.

Experimental studies of chronic noise exposure in modern urban life testified about oxidative stress due to the corresponding hormones effects leading to accumulation of reactive oxygen species and endothelial dysfunction. This study aims to evaluate the protective effect of α2-adrenoblockers to modulate oxidative stress and corticosterone levels due to chronic noise exposure. To achieve this, we examined the effects of beditin (2-aminothiozolyl-1,4-benzodioxane) and mesedin (2-(2-methyl-amino-thiozolyl)-1,4-benzodioxane hydrochloride), along with changes in corticosterone, Ca2 + content, and morphological alterations in various tissues under noise-induced stress.

Background: Epidemiological studies report associations of drinking water disinfection byproducts (DBPs) with adverse health outcomes, including birth defects. Here, we used a rat model susceptible to pregnancy loss (full-litter resorption; FLR) and eye malformations (anophthalmia, microphthalmia) to test 11 DBPs, including trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids (HAAs), and nitrogen-containing DBPs (N-DBPs).
Methods: Timed-pregnant F344 rats received gavage doses of chloroform, chlorodibromomethane, iodoform, chloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid (DBA), diiodoacetic acid (DIA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), dibromonitromethane, and iodoacetonitrile on gestation days (GD) 6-10.

Macrocyclic peptides are promising scaffolds for the covalent ligand discovery. However, platforms enabling the direct identification of covalent macrocyclic ligands in a high-throughput manner are limited. In this study, we present an mRNA display platform allowing selection of covalent macrocyclic inhibitors using 1,3-dibromoacetone-vinyl sulfone (DBA-VS).

Background: The standard treatment for Kawasaki disease is immunoglobulin therapy, but the high frequency of coronary sequelae in immunoglobulin-refractory cases indicates a need for further improvement in treatment.
Methods: Kawasaki disease-like vasculitis was induced in 5-week-old DBA/2 mice by intraperitoneal administration of 0.5 mg Candida albicans water-soluble fraction (CAWS) daily for 5 days followed by daily administration of candesartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker.
