Several different methods of measuring cervical dilatation have been described. In this article, we review those methods and examine findings from studies using them. Although many instruments have been developed to measure cervical dilatation during labor and their use as a research tool has been established, no device has yet been successfully used for clinical obstetrics. The ideal device has not yet been developed; however, because repeated digital cervical examinations are time consuming for the clinician, are poorly reproducible, and are uncomfortable for the patient, continued efforts to develop a cervimeter suitable for clinical use is a worthwhile endeavor.

Eimeria is a protozoan parasite that causes coccidiosis in various animal species, especially in chickens, resulting in infections characterized by intestinal damage, hemorrhagic diarrhea, lethargy, and high mortality rates in the absence of effective control measures. The rapid spread of these parasites through ingestion of food and drinking water can seriously endanger animal health and productivity, leading to significant economic losses in the chicken industry. Chicken Eimeria species are difficult to identify by conventional microscopy due to similarities in oocyst morphologies.

Background: The approach to induction of labour differs internationally, with timing of amniotomy being controversial. Some institutions favour performing artificial rupture of membranes prior to commencement of oxytocin infusion, with the belief that the labour will progress more efficiently. In other institutions, the approach recommended is for oxytocin infusion with intact amniotic membranes until the person has reached the active phase of labour, citing risk of infection with early amniotomy.

Background: Lack of motivation and behavioral abnormalities are the hallmarks of postpartum depression (PPD). Severe uterine contractions during labor are pain triggers for psychiatric disorders, including PPD in women during the puerperium. Creating biomarkers to monitor PPD may help in its early detection and treatment.

Background: Physical activity during pregnancy is a positive behavior for improving pregnancy outcomes, yet the relationship between physical activity during pregnancy and labor is still debated.
Objective: This study aimed to test our hypothesis that a higher level of physical activity during pregnancy is associated with a shorter labor duration.
Study Design: This was a prospective cohort study of pregnant women with singleton pregnancies and no contraindications to physical activity during pregnancy.
