Promoters are crucial elements for controlling gene expression in cells, yet lactic acid bacteria (LAB) often lack a diverse set of available constitutive promoters with quantitative characterization. To enrich the LAB promoter library, this study focused on the known strong constitutive promoter P in LAB. Through error-prone PCR and dNTP analog-induced random mutagenesis, a library of 247 mutants of P was generated by using the red fluorescent protein (RFP) fluorescence intensity as a high-throughput screening indicator in Streptococcus thermophilus.

d-Galactofuranose (Galf) is widely distributed in glycoconjugates of pathogenic microbes. β-d-Galactofuranosidase (Galf-ase) from Streptomyces sp. JHA19 (ORF1110) belongs to glycoside hydrolase (GH) family 2 and is the first identified Galf-specific degradation enzyme.

Background: The main characteristic of asthma is chronic inflammation. We examined cellular senescence by histology and molecular assay in the lungs of a rat model of asthma. This model comprises sensitization by several intraperitoneal injections of ovalbumin with aluminium hydroxide, followed by aerosol challenges every other day.

Lysosomal exoglycosidases, namely α-mannosidase (MAN), α-fucosidase (FUC), β-galactosidase (GAL), and β-glucuronidase (GLU), are of crucial importance in breaking down the oligosaccharide chains of multiple glycoconjugates. Those enzymes liberate monosaccharides from non-reducing ends of oligosaccharide chains. In this study, we have aimed to assess the potential utility of MAN, FUC, GAL, and GLU activities as indicators of ethanol abuse in individuals who died from ethanol intoxication, while also investigating the mechanisms underlying their deaths.

Developing modified dietary fibers that maintain prebiotic benefits without significantly affecting meal taste is of high importance in the midst of the obesity pandemic. These benefits include regulating the composition of gut microbiota, increasing feelings of fullness, and improving human metabolic parameters. This study investigated the use of a resistant dextrin (RD) derived from potato starch, which possesses prebiotic properties, as a potential additive in vegetable-fruit preparations that aid weight loss and improve health markers in overweight children.
