Is produced at the right atrium and is acting upon four types of receptors. The main effects of ANF are: renal effects, by rapid increasing and prolongation of glomerular filtration; neuroumoral effects--the inhibition of renin-angiotensin system and of the release of aldosterone; effects upon the vascular wall, with vasodilatation; another effect is the regulation of the hydrosalin balance. The therapeutical endpoints of ANF are related to its action in some diseases like: cardiac failure, arterial hypertension, myocardia infarction, paroxysmal arrhythmias; in some of them it is a very fiable predictive marker. ANF represents o neuroumoral mechanism which play an important role in functional regulation of the cardio-vascular system.

MicroRNA-34c-5p provokes isoprenaline-induced cardiac hypertrophy by modulating autophagy targeting ATG4B.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy serves as a significant foundation for cardiac dysfunction and heart failure. Recently, growing evidence has revealed that microRNAs (miRNAs) play multiple roles in biological processes and participate in cardiovascular diseases. In the present research, we investigate the impact of miRNA-34c-5p on cardiac hypertrophy and the mechanism involved.

The heart manifests hypertrophic growth in response to elevation of afterload pressure. Cardiac myocyte growth involves new protein synthesis and membrane expansion, of which a number of cellular quality control machineries are stimulated to maintain function and homeostasis. The unfolded protein response is potently induced during cardiac hypertrophy to enhance protein-folding capacity and eliminate terminally misfolded proteins.

Activation of HuR downstream of p38 MAPK promotes cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.

The RNA binding protein Human antigen R (HuR) interacts with specific AU-rich domains in target mRNAs and is highly expressed in many cell types, including cardiomyocytes. However, the role of HuR in cardiac physiology is largely unknown. Our results show that HuR undergoes cytoplasmic translocation, indicative of its activation, in hypertrophic cardiac myocytes.

The nuclear protein PARP-1 [poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1] is activated in cardiomyocytes exposed to hypoxia causing DNA breaks. Unlike this stress-induced PARP-1 activation, our results provide evidence for Ca(2+)-induced PARP-1 activation in contracting newborn cardiomyocytes treated with growth factors and hormones that increased their contraction rate, induced intracellular Ca(2+) mobilization and its rhythmical and transient translocation into the nucleus. Furthermore, activated PARP-1 up-regulated the activity of phosphorylated ERK (extracellular-signal-regulated kinase) in the nucleus, promoting expression of the Elk1 target gene c-fos.

hhLIM [human heart LIM (Lin-11/IsI-1/Mec-3) protein] is a muscle-specific LIM-only protein that consists of two LIM motifs. hhLIM functions as a positive regulator for cardiac hypertrophy. Here we report that hhLIM serves as a cofactor regulating the expression of the ANF (atrial natriuretic factor) gene in H9c2 rat cardiomyoblast cells.
