Parallel findings in the adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) and child abuse literatures are integrated and extended by assessing long-term adjustment and childhood histories of parental alcoholism and sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in college students (N = 333). Abuse histories were most strongly related to adult symptom distress and social maladjustment. Parental alcoholism had no independent effects when controlling for abuse history. Parental alcoholism interacted with abuse history in relation to social adjustment, exacerbating the effects of emotional abuse. This study adds to a growing literature calling for more complex models of ACOA development that can account for the diversity of this population.

The objective of the present study was to assess the performance of bovine serum albumin in increasing the extractive yields of anthraquinones and diarylheptanoids from their respective raw plant powder extracts. Aloe emodin, rhein, emodin, and chrysophanol, from , , , and , and curcumin from were analyzed in parent dry extracts, solubilized either with water, ethanol, or hydro-alcoholic mixtures, and in ones treated with aqueous solutions of bovine serum albumin by HPLC with UV/Vis detection.

Background: While the associations between pediatric non-obese metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and multiple diagnostic biomarkers are well-established, the role of a broader range of blood-based, urine-based, and body composition-based biomarkers for monitoring MAFLD are needed.

Methods: A pediatric cohort was established in Wuxi, China. We measured body composition biomarkers, blood-based and urine-based biomarkers, and liver stiffness in participants to diagnose MAFLD and identify alternative and novel potential biomarkers for MAFLD.

In winemaking, malolactic fermentation (MLF), which converts L-malic acid to L-lactic acid, is often applied after the alcoholic fermentation stage to improve the sensory properties of the wine and its microbiological stability. MLF is usually performed by lactic acid bacteria, which, however, are sensitive to the conditions of alcoholic fermentation. Therefore, the development of wine yeast strains capable of both alcoholic fermentation and MLF is an important task.
