Published: March 2000

Aim: We report the comparison of low (Exudrain) and high pressure (Redivac) drains in 69 patients following mastectomy and axillary clearance.

Methods: Volume of drainage was recorded daily for 8 days postoperatively.

Results: Comparison of daily drainage revealed no statistically significant difference between the two groups of patients (P>0.05). There were no complications specific to the drains and we found similar numbers of infective complications in both groups. Hospital stay was also similar in the two groups (P=0. 70).

Conclusions: We conclude that the two drainage systems are equally effective in their drainage abilities although use of the low pressure may have an advantage over the high pressure system as it obviates the need for bottle changes and therefore requires less time and effort to manage.

Superconducting hydrides exhibiting a high critical temperature () under extreme pressures have garnered significant interest. However, the extremely high pressures required for their stability have limited their practical applications. The current challenge is to identify high- superconducting hydrides that can be stabilized at lower or even ambient pressures.

China witnessed an Omicron COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2022. During this period, medical crowding and enormous pressure on the healthcare systems occurred, which might result in the occurrence of occupational burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aims to investigate the prevalence of occupational burnout and associated mental conditions, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness among HCWs of the Chinese mainland during the Omicron COVID-19 outbreak, and to explore the potential risk and protective factors influencing occupational burnout of HCWs.

Background: Preeclampsia significantly impacts maternal and perinatal health. Early screening using advanced models and primary prevention with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for high-risk populations is crucial to reduce the disease's incidence. This study assesses the feasibility of implementing preterm preeclampsia screening and prevention by leveraging information from our current aneuploidy screening program in a real-world setting with geographic separation clinical site and laboratory analysis site.

Background: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating stroke subtype with a high rate of mortality and disability. Therapeutic options available are primarily limited to supportive care and blood pressure control, whereas the surgical approach remains controversial. In this study, we explored the effects of noninvasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) on hematoma volume and outcome in a rat model of collagenase-induced ICH.
