Previous work from our laboratory demonstrated that a synthetic heptapeptide (Ch7: RGSDIAG), corresponding to a conserved sequence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) core protein p24 (amino acids 232- 238), was able to specifically abrogate antigen-induced responses in cultures of normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), probably acting at the level of monocytes. The Ch7 peptide displays sequence homology to human plasminogen. In the present report we show that a compound (6-aminoexanoic acid), known to prevent plasminogen binding to monocyte-like cells, greatly reduced the immunosuppressive capacity of Ch7. We suggest that the plasminogen receptor may represent a target structure on human monocytes for the immunosuppressive p24 sequence.

Psilocybin represents a novel therapeutic approach for individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) who do not respond to conventional antidepressant treatment. Investigating the influence of psilocybin on the pathophysiological processes involved in MDD could enhance our neurobiological understanding of the presumed antidepressant action mechanism. This systematic review aims to summarize the results of human studies investigating changes in blood-based biomarkers of MDD to guide future research on potentially relevant analytes that could be monitored in clinical trials.

Introduction: We investigated the specific factors driving abnormal angiogenesis in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its role in cerebrovascular lesions and neurodegeneration.
Methods: We assessed cerebrovascular pathologies, amyloid-beta (Aβ), and tau pathologies in post mortem human brains and detected 12 angiogenic factors in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the China Aging and Neurodegenerative Disease Initiative (CANDI) cohort.
Results: We observed severe blood-brain barrier damage and elevated levels of the vascular marker CD31 in human AD brains, which had a stronger correlation with tau pathology than Aβ pathology.
Unlabelled: Chronic back pain (CBP) is the leading cause of disability affecting 1 in 10 people worldwide. Symptoms are marked by persistent lower back pain, reduced mobility, and heightened cold sensitivity. Here, we utilize a mouse model of CBP induced by injecting urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), a proinflammatory agent in the fibrinolytic pathway, between the L2/L3 lumbar vertebrae.

Introduction: In the last decades, the recombinant tissue plasminogen activator alteplase has been the standard fibrinolytic treatment of acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, and acute ischemic stroke. An optimized version of alteplase, tenecteplase, has been developed by exchanging six amino acids to increase half-life, achieve higher fibrin selectivity and increase resistance to plasminogen activator inhibitor-1. Meanwhile, several products containing tenecteplase exist.

Background: Fluorescence molecular imaging, a potent and non-invasive technique, has become indispensable in medicine for visualizing molecular processes. In surgical oncology, it aids treatment by allowing visualization of tumor cells during fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). Targeting the urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), overexpressed during tissue remodeling and inflammation, holds promise for advancing FGS by specifically highlighting tumors.
