Purpose: To describe the design of a digital retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) imaging techniques and present a new approach to measure the differences in RNFL patterns.
Methods: A digital camera body is connected to a wide-angle camera to obtain images of the RNFL, which are displayed in workstations throughout the clinic. In the on-line archive, images in Joint Photographics Experts Group (JPEG) format (100 KB per frame) are used. The hypothesis that changes in RNFL structure can be seen as changes in the microtexture of digital images was tested using an information theoretical approach (Kullback Information Distance, KID). A large KID value indicates a large difference, and a small KID value indicates a small difference in microtexture between the two regions. The material of this pilot study consists of 9 patients with glaucoma, 8 patients with ocular hypertension, and 7 normal subjects.
Results: The median KID value in the glaucoma group was 3.5, compared with the median KID values of 0.6 in the control groups. Although a trend could be seen in the measured values, because of a small sample size, the differences were not statistically significant. Five of 24 (21%) KID values overlapped between the glaucomatous group and the other two groups.
Conclusion: Although digital imaging produces good quality RNFL images, further research is needed to establish minimum accepted specifications for digital imaging. In this pilot study, only the microtexture of the RNFL was measured in digital images. In the future, the approach can be expanded to include also properties of macrotexture and full color palette.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a life-threatening condition, with a higher mortality rate in men than women and in which estrogens might play a protective role. This study aimed to investigate sex-dependent differences in a mouse model of caerulein-induced AP. Thirty-six C57BL/6J mice (19 females and 17 males) were treated intraperitoneally with phosphate-buffered saline or caerulein, and sacrificed 12 hours, 2 days, or 7 days after the last injection.

An 18-year-old female patient presented with a 1-month history of low back pain, which had worsened and was accompanied by radiating pain in the right lower limb for half a month. She was admitted to our hospital with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings suggesting calcification of the L3/4 disc and a large intraspinal mass at the L2-4 level. The patient's symptoms did not improve with conservative treatment, and her muscle strength rapidly declined.

Background Orthodontic diagnostic workflows often rely on manual classification and archiving of large volumes of patient images, a process that is both time-consuming and prone to errors such as mislabeling and incomplete documentation. These challenges can compromise treatment accuracy and overall patient care. To address these issues, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven deep learning framework based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to automate the classification and archiving of orthodontic diagnostic images.

This will help facilitate effective and evidence-based triaging of patients in rapid-access clinics.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analysed prospectively collected data from 307 suspected prostate cancer patients who underwent diagnostic biopsy from 2019 to 2023 at a single, high-volume, specialist cancer centre.
