The external ventral protractor muscle of the VIIth abdominal segment, M234, is a skeletal muscle that possesses receptors that recognize a range of FMRFamide-related peptides and application of these peptides results in an increase in the amplitude of neurally evoked contractions with little or no effect on basal tonus. FLRFamide itself has the same biologic activity as the extended peptides, whereas truncation to LRFamide or RFamide results in a peptide with no biologic activity. The receptors recognizing these extended FLRFamides, which include SchistoFLRFamide, seem to be different from the SchistoFLRFamide receptors found on locust oviduct visceral muscle. SchistoFLRFamide and the non-peptide mimetic, benzethonium chloride (Bztc), increase the frequency and amplitude of miniature endplate potentials, increase the amplitude of neurally evoked excitatory junction potentials, and result in a hyperpolarisation of resting membrane potential. Bztc, however, also abolishes the active membrane response that may explain its ability to decrease neurally evoked contractions.

Mapping the myomagnetic field of a straight and easily accessible muscle after electrical stimulation using triaxial optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) to assess potential benefits for magnetomyography (MMG). Approach: Six triaxial OPMs were arranged in two rows with three sensors each along the abductor digiti minimi (ADM) muscle. The upper row of sensors was inclined by 45° with respect to the lower row and all sensors were aligned closely to the skin surface without direct contact.

This study examined the effects of treadmill running (TR) regimens on craniofacial pain- and anxiety-like behaviors, as well as their effects on neural changes in specific brain regions of male mice subjected to repeated social defeat stress (SDS) for 10 days. Behavioral and immunohistochemical experiments were conducted to evaluate the impact of TR regimens on SDS-related those behaviors, as well as epigenetic and neural activity markers in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), insular cortex (IC), rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM), and cervical spinal dorsal horn (C2). Behavioral responses were quantified using multiple tests, while immunohistochemistry measured histone H3 acetylation, histone deacetylases (HDAC1, HDAC2), and neural activity markers (FosB and phosphorylated cAMP response element-binding protein (pCREB).

Listeners with hearing loss have trouble following a conversation in multitalker environments. While modern hearing aids can generally amplify speech, these devices are unable to tune into a target speaker without first knowing to which speaker a user aims to attend. Brain-controlled hearing aids have been proposed using auditory attention decoding (AAD) methods, but current methods use the same model to compare the speech stimulus and neural response, regardless of the dynamic overlap between talkers which is known to influence neural encoding.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the sources of later response in epidural spinal recordings (ESRs) obtained from implanted leads during spinal cord stimulation, a topic has not been widely studied in previous research.
Methods: Two patients with lower back and lower extremity pain underwent SCS implantation with intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM). The timing of extracted peaks in ESRs and intramuscular electromyography (EMG) recordings were analyzed and compared to a Monte Carlo simulation for synchronization analysis.

Accurate decoding of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in the shortest possible time is essential for the realization of a high-performance brain-computer interface (BCI) system based on the steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP). However, the degradation of decoding performance of short-length EEG signals is often unavoidable due to the reduced information, which hinders the development of BCI systems in real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a relaxed matching knowledge distillation (RMKD) method to transfer both feature-level and logit-level knowledge in a relaxed manner to improve the decoding performance of short-length EEG signals.
