A GC-UV instrumental set up with two different GC units has been used for determination of specific functional groups and compounds in complex mixtures. Separations have been made using a micro gas chromatograph built into a gas flow cell and by means of an external capillary gas chromatograph linked to the same gas flow cell. Four various applications (cigarette smoke, petroleum, dust, flavour) have been performed in order to demonstrate the potential of the GC-UV method. Gas phase UV spectra have been recorded in the region of 168-330 nm. Based on a gas phase spectrum reference library the identification of unknowns as well as the determination of specific functional groups have been achieved. A table showing the spectral shapes and positions of the absorption bands for 50 specific functional groups is presented. The advantage of using derivative spectra in order to amplify spectral details and improve selectivity is discussed. Regarding sensitivity, it has been found that identifications can be made in the mid-pg range and limit of detection for naphthalenes are at a level of 0.5-3 pg/s.

Optimizing the longevity of vascular access in hemodialysis patients remains a critical aspect of patient care, given the significant role of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) and arteriovenous grafts (AVGs) in enabling effective dialysis. Vascular access complications, such as stenosis, thrombosis, and cannulation-related damage, continue to challenge both the functionality and the sustainability of these access points. Recent advancements underscore the importance of a robust follow-up strategy, integrating clinical evaluations with diagnostic tools like color Doppler ultrasound (CDU) and emerging interventional approaches such as drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty.

In this article, the author aims to shed new light on how sensoriality can be considered and deployed in the treatment of severely autistic children. Whereas psychoanalysis has explored in detail the defensive function that sensoriality can have for these patients, the author puts forward the idea that this can be used to further the differentiation and structuration of the body ego. Through some detailed clinical material, drawn from the psychotherapy of a five-year-old girl, the author sets out to illustrate how work on the different sensations can lead to relational openings that are initially specific to each sensory channel and then more general, as well as how the access to otherness emerges from this work on sensations.

An original approach to characterize electrochemical interfaces at the atomic level, a challenging topic toward the understanding of electrochemical reactivity, is reported. We employed surface resonant X-ray diffraction experiments combined with their simulation using first-principle density functional theory calculations and were thus able to determine the molecular and electronic structures of the partially ionic layer facing the electrode surface, as well as the charge distribution in the surface metal layers. Pt(111) in an acidic medium at an applied potential excluding specific adsorption was studied.

Objective: Extraversion is a fundamental personality dimension that contributes to an individual's overall health and well-being. Many studies have examined the neural bases of extraversion but these results are inconsistent. This study adopted a meta-analysis approach to examine the brain activity correlates of extraversion by incorporating functional neuroimaging studies in the context of positive affect/emotional stimuli.

Background: Some patients submitted to isolated ACL reconstruction may have symptomatic postoperative rotational instability. The objective of this study was to evaluate a population with mild rotatory instability after ACL reconstruction, which was submitted to an isolated extra-articular procedure.
Methods: Patients submitted to an isolated extra-articular procedure after ACL reconstruction were retrospectively evaluated.
