Background: Acanthocephalans (thorny headed worms) of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus mainly parasitize amphibians and reptiles across the globe. Some species of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus also can accidentally infect human and cause human acanthocephaliasis. Current knowledge of the species composition of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus from amphibians and reptiles in China is incomplete.

Tagless LysoIP for immunoaffinity enrichment of native lysosomes from clinical samples.

J Clin Invest

December 2024

Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit, School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, Dundee, United Kingdom.

Lysosomes are implicated in a wide spectrum of human diseases including monogenic lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs), age-associated neurodegeneration and cancer. Profiling lysosomal content using tag-based lysosomal immunoprecipitation (LysoTagIP) in cell and animal models has substantially moved the field forward, but studying lysosomal dysfunction in human patients remains challenging. Here, we report the development of the 'tagless LysoIP' method, designed to enable the rapid enrichment of lysosomes, via immunoprecipitation, using the endogenous integral lysosomal membrane protein TMEM192, directly from clinical samples and human cell lines (e.

Reliability of wing morphometrics for species identification of human-biting black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Thailand.

Parasit Vectors

December 2024

Parasitology and Entomology Research Cluster (PERC), Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, 50200, Thailand.

Background: Fast and reliable species identification of black flies is essential for research proposes and effective vector control. Besides traditional identification based on morphology, which is usually supplemented with molecular methods, geometric morphometrics (GM) has emerged as a promising tool for identification. Despite its potential, no specific GM techniques have been established for the identification of black fly species.

Population pharmacokinetics of caspofungin in critically ill patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation-an ASAP ECMO study.

Antimicrob Agents Chemother

December 2024

University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR), Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

This study aimed to describe the population pharmacokinetics of caspofungin in critically ill patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and to identify dosing regimens with a high likelihood of achieving effective exposures. Serial blood samples were collected over a single-dosing interval during ECMO. Total plasma concentrations were measured by a validated chromatographic assay.
