Introduction: There is a lack of epidemiological data on falls and fall-related injuries for the aged population in Germany. The purpose of the article is to present the available data focusing on the incidence of the fracture types that carry the highest risk for mortality, hospitalization and persisting disabilities.
Methods: The paper reports on a 10% representative sample that was drawn by the Federal Bureau of Statistics. A medline search for 1980-1998 was performed to identify relevant articles. The OECD database was used for mortality rates after injurious falls. If no sufficient data were published for Germany, incidence rates of demographic comparable European regions are reported.
Results: The number of fractures of the lower extremity (ICD 820-829) followed by hospitalization was 139,000 in 1996 for elderly (65+ years). Fractures of the upper extremities (ICD 810-819) requiring hospitalisation were reported for 65,000 persons aged 65+ years and head trauma (ICD 850-851) followed by hospitalization in this age group for 29,000 persons. There remains an information gap on the incidence of falls and fall-related sequelae without hospitalization in Germany.
Consequences: Facing, the demographic transgression the prevention of falls and fall-related injuries gains a high priority. Operative management and rehabilitation procedures for elderly trauma patients should be further evaluated and improved.

Objectives: Falls and fall-related injuries among older adults are a growing public health concern. Although multiple factors and co-morbidities are associated with falls, balance and gait disorders are among the most common causes. Physical therapists have expertise in fall-risk assessment and management.

Objectives: Home assessment and modification are crucial to prevent fall and fall-related injuries, especially in vulnerable subjects. This study assessed the need for home modifications and investigated risk factors associated with home injuries in post-total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients.
Methods: This study was conducted at the university hospital from July 2022 to July 2023.

Background: Given that fall injury is a critical public health concern in Australia, understanding the economic implications of falls among older adults is crucial to allocating healthcare resources efficiently to reduce falls and improve quality of life. This study therefore aimed to estimate the cost and identify factors associated with fall-related injuries within residential aged care (RAC).
Methods: A cohort analysis from the healthcare system perspective based on data from a double-blinded randomised controlled trial-the Opti-Med trial.

Background: Falls are some of the most common childhood injuries. However, for vulnerable children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India, mortality from a fall is nearly three times that of high-income countries. Despite fall being a leading cause of paediatric injury, detailed data from LMICs remain sparse.

Introduction: A third of community-dwelling adults over the age of 65 years fall each year, making falls a significant concern for the elderly. Older people living in community-dwellings account for 73% of fall-related hospitalisations in older populations. Little is known about identifying, reaching at-risk people, and delivering these interventions in rural communities.
