Translesion synthesis (TLS) is one of the DNA damage tolerance strategies, which have evolved to enable organisms to replicate their genome despite the presence of unrepaired damage. The process of TLS has the propensity to produce mutations, a potential origin of cancer, and is therefore of medical interest. Significant progress in our understanding of TLS has come primarily from studies of the bacterium Escherichia coli, the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and, more recently, human cells. Results from these analyses indicate that the fundamental mechanism of TLS and the proteins involved have been conserved throughout evolution from bacteria to humans.

Objective: This study aimed to uncover the patterns of Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection outcomes in women and assess the risk factors that may affect these outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 608 women who tested positive for HPV-DNA during their initial visit to the outpatient department of Shenzhen Longgang Central Hospital from 2018 to 2023 and who had subsequent HPV-DNA testing as part of their post-visit monitoring. The monitoring intervals were every 6 months.

Bacteria in the complex and nontuberculous mycobacteria may affect a variety of animal species under human care and pose public health risks as zoonotic pathogens. A case of sudden onset of lethargy and increased respiratory effort in a 5-y-old, intact female reindeer () under managed care had progressed to severe dyspnea despite aggressive treatment. The animal was euthanized due to poor prognosis.

Ten-eleven translocation (TET) enzymes oxidize 5-methylcytosine (mC) in DNA, contributing to the regulation of gene transcription. Diverse mutations of TET2 are frequently found in various blood cancers, yet the full scope of their functional consequences has been unexplored. Here, we report that a subset of TET2 mutations identified in leukemia patients alter the substrate specificity of TET2 from acting on mC to thymine.
