Aortofemoral bypass surgery is still the «gold standard» for aortoiliac lesions with excellent results and long-term patency despite improvement of endovascular surgery. Extensive surgical approaches are accompanied by high risk of postoperative complications. Development of minimally invasive surgery and achievements of computerized technologies made a revolution in all surgeries and minimize trauma following complex reconstructive procedures.

September 2020

Department of Vascular Surgery, Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery, Moscow, Russia; Department of Hospital Surgery, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, Moscow, Russia.

The article contains a systematic review of the literature dedicated to vascular robot-assisted operations, also discussing the use of robotic technologies in vascular surgery, their advantages and disadvantages. In so doing, we studied the experience of Russian and leading international surgical centres, comparing the reported outcomes by such parameters as the average duration of the operation, mean time of aortic cross-clamping, time spent for anastomosis formation, frequency of postoperative complications, etc. Benefits of robot-assisted operations allowed the latter to occupy the leading positions in various fields of surgery, although the use of robots in vascular surgery has only begun to gain popularity.

Angiol Sosud Khir

August 2017

Chair of Faculty Surgery with the Course of Endoscopic Surgery and with the Course of Cardiovascular Surgery of the Faculty for Advanced Medical Training, Volgograd State Medical University of the RF Health Ministry, Russia.

According to the TASC II and the Russian National Guidelines on management of patients with lower limb arterial diseases, in patients with type C and D lesions of the arterial bed performing aortofemoral bifurcation bypass grafting is preferable. Laparoscopic technique makes it possible to combine advantages of minimally invasive surgery with well-known remote results of open reconstructive operations on the aortoiliac segment. The study included a total of 54 patients undergoing treatment at the Cardiosurgical Department of Clinic No 1 of the Volgograd State Medical University over the period from January 2012 to September 2015.
