Fine particles suspended in turbulent water exhibit highly irregular trajectories as they are buffeted by fluid eddies. The Local Exchange Model provides a stochastic diffusion approximation to the randomlike motion of such particles (e.g. dispersing benthic organisms in a stream). McNair et al. (1997, J. theor. Biol.188, 29) used this model to derive equations governing the mean hitting time, which is the expected time until a particle hits bottom for the first time from a given initial elevation. The present paper derives equations governing the probability distribution of the hitting time, then studies the distribution's dependence on a particle's initial elevation and two dimensionless parameters. The results show that for fine particles suspended in moderately to highly turbulent water, the hitting-time distribution is strongly skewed to the right, with mode

SiO-based anodes, considered the most promising candidate for high-energy density batteries, have long been bothered by mechanical integrity issues. Research efforts focus on particle modifications, often overlooking the enhancement of interparticle connections, which can reduce the active material content within the electrode. Herein, an integrated electrode with strong covalent bonding at the electrode scale is designed, achieving excellent mechanical stability with ∼95 wt.

Objective: This study aims to develop a dual-ligand-modified targeted drug delivery system by integrating photosensitizers and chemotherapeutic drugs to enhance anti-glioma effects. The system is designed to overcome the blood-brain barrier (BBB) that hinders effective drug delivery, increase drug accumulation in glioma cells, and thereby enhance therapeutic efficacy.

Methods: Liposomes were prepared using the film dispersion-ammonium sulfate gradient technique, co-loading the photosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG) and the chemotherapeutic drug mitoxantrone (MTO).

The remarkable catalytic activity, optical properties, and electrochemical behavior of nanomaterials based on noble metals (NM) are profoundly influenced by their physical characteristics, including particle size, morphology, and crystal structure. Effective regulation of these parameters necessitates a refined methodology. Lignin, a natural aromatic compound abundant in hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, and sulfonic acid groups, has emerged as an eco-friendly surfactant, reducing agent, and dispersant, offering the potential to precisely control the particle size and morphology of NM-based nanomaterials.

Enzymatic hydrolysis prior to fibrillation could promote the formation of soy protein isolate (SPI) nanofibrils. However, the large amount of resulting insoluble soy protein hydrolysates (ISPH) demonstrated significantly limited fibrillation capacity. In this study, the modification of ISPH through the combination of pH and ultrasound treatment significantly enhanced their solubility and further promoted fibrillation capacity.

RAFT Dispersion Polymerization of 2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate in Non-polar Media.

We report the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) dispersion polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) in -dodecane using a poly(lauryl methacrylate) (PLMA) precursor at 90 °C. This formulation is an example of polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA), which leads to the formation of a colloidal dispersion of spherical PLMA-PHEMA nanoparticles at 10-20% w/w solids. PISA syntheses involving polar monomers in non-polar media have been previously reported but this particular system offers some unexpected and interesting challenges in terms of both synthesis and characterization.
