Twenty-eight patients with 103 recalcitrant and 20 simple viral warts were treated with the Cynosure PhotoGenica V pulsed dye laser at 585 nm, and fluencies of 6.0-9.0 J/cm(2). An eradication rate of 92% for recalcitrant warts after an average of 2.1 (range 1-7) treatments and 75% for simple warts after an average of 1.6 (range 1-2) treatments was achieved with a mean follow-up period of 7.2 (range 3-15) months. Mild hypopigmentation was noted in one patient and superficial infection in another. Unlike ablative treatment modalities, with pulsed dye laser therapy, no wound was created thus avoiding prolonged postoperative pain, disability and scarring. Treatment was well tolerated by patients, most of whom returned to work or normal activities immediately postoperatively. Pulsed dye laser is an effective treatment for both recalcitrant and simple warts. It is the treatment of choice for these lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas.

An electrochemical aptasensor has been developed specifically for the sensitive and selective determination of ochratoxin A (OTA), one of the most important mycotoxins. The aptasensor utilizes a glassy carbon electrode that has been modified with toluidine blue (TB) encapsulated in a Zn-based metal-organic framework (TB@Zn-MOF). The results demonstrate that in the presence of OTA, the peak current of the differential pulse voltammogram (DPV) related to TB oxidation is notably decreased.

Time-resolved single molecule localization microscopy (TR-SMLM) with a 2 × 2 pixel fiber optic array camera was combined with time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) to obtain super-resolved fluorescence lifetime images of individual Cy3 dye molecules and individual colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnS core/shell/shell semiconductor quantum dots (QDs). The characteristic blinking and bleaching behavior of the Cy3 and the blinking behavior of the QD emitters were used as distinguishing optical characteristics to isolate them and determine their centroid locations with spatial resolution below the optical diffraction limit. TCSPC was used to characterize the fluorescence lifetime and intensity corresponding to each emitter location.

Methemoglobinemia is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition in which hemoglobin is oxidized, impairing the oxygen-carrying capacity. While congenital forms exist, acquired methemoglobinemia can occur in perioperative settings, especially following exposure to oxidizing agents such as dyes used in sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). Patent Blue V, a synthetic aniline dye commonly used for SLNB, has been associated with rare but serious adverse effects, including methemoglobinemia.
