Since chemical pollution poses a persistent threat to freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, innovative methodologies are required to address the ecological risks associated with such pollutants. This study predicts the long-term impacts of chemicals based on an equation that describes the time-dependency of the median lethal and effect concentration (L(E)C50) with the Critical Body Residue concept. This way, the methodology can predict Species Sensitivity Distributions (SSDs) for any given time point.

The separation and recovery of useful organics from wastewater have been a promising alternative to tackling water pollution and resource shortages, while strategies that truly work have rarely been explored. Herein, a reversible CO triggered sol-gel state transformation mediated selective organics uptake-release system using a surface modified carbonitride (S-CN) is proposed and exhibits remarkable organics recovery performance from wastewater. Results show that CO can serve as a cross-linker for linking S-CN particles to form a hydrogel by electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding, which can be recycled to the pristine sol state simply by removing the cross-linked CO with Ar purging.

Designing ideal human biomonitoring studies involves the selection of reliable markers of exposure in adequate biological matrix. Besides conventional matrices such as blood or urine, hair has been increasingly investigated as a promising noninvasive alternative. However, understanding the pollutant distribution between differing biological compartments is essential for reliable interpretation of data collected.

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are a group of organic chemical compounds. Contradictory results have emerged in epidemiological studies attempting to elucidate their relationship with breast cancer risk. This study explored the relationship between dietary exposures to multiple POPs and ER-positive breast cancer risk in the French E3N cohort study, using three different approaches to handle multicollinearity among exposures.

The rapid increase of novel per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) raises concerns, while their identification remains challenging. Here, we develop a two-layer homolog network approach for PFAS nontarget screening using mass spectrometry. The first layer constructs networks between homologs, with evaluation showing that it filters 94% of false candidates.
