Cytokine-cytokine interactions play a role in health and are crucial during immunological and inflammatory responses in disease. Cytokine interactions can result in additive, antagonist, or synergistic activities in maintaining physiological functions such as feeding, body temperature, and sleep, as well as in anorectic, pyrogenic, and somnogenic neurological manifestations of acute and chronic disease. These interactions involve signaling homology, convergence of signaling pathways, and/or positive or negative feedbacks within and among cytokine systems. The interplay of cytokines with neurotransmitters, peptides/neuropeptides, and hormones also influence cytokine action in the brain. Interactive chemical cascades involving cytokines are consistent with the homeostatic physiological mechanisms and with the multi-humoral, pleiotropic, and redundant processes that occur during acute and chronic disease.

Chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) are a global health concern, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of their complex pathophysiology. This study explores the use of 2 complementary multidimensional -omics data integration methods to elucidate mechanisms of CKD progression as a proof of concept. Baseline biosamples from 37 participants with CKD in the Clinical Phenotyping and Resource Biobank Core (C-PROBE) cohort with prospective longitudinal outcome data ascertained over 5 years were used to generate molecular profiles.

Chromatin organization regulates transcription to influence cellular plasticity and cell fate. We explored whether chromatin nanoscale packing domains are involved in stemness and response to chemotherapy. Using an optical spectroscopic nanosensing technology we show that ovarian cancer-derived cancer stem cells (CSCs) display upregulation of nanoscale chromatin packing domains compared to non-CSCs.

A healthy uterine environment is essential for establishing and maintaining pregnancy and normal embryo development after insemination. In this context, the primary objectives of this study were to assess the genetic background of vaginal discharge score (VDS) traits during the voluntary waiting period in Holstein cows and to identify genomic regions and candidate genes influencing postpartum uterine health based on the integration of phenotypic, genomic, and transcriptomic data sets. Genetic parameters of 5 VDS traits defined according to lactation stage (VDS1, VDS2, VDS3, VDS4, and VDS5) were estimated based on VDS records from 64,241 Holstein cows that calved between 2019 and 2023 and genomic information from 2,489 cows.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) are often accompanied, but there are no effective differential diagnosis and treatment for VaD. The search for common pathogenic targets or pathways connecting the two diseases is helpful to the drug development and treatment of the disease. In this study, we used gene expression array data from the GEO database to analyze common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the temporal cortex of patients with AD and VaD.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a multifactorial autoimmune disease affecting joints. Early and accurate diagnosis is important for initiating the correct treatment and preventing long-term complications.
Methods: Microarray expression data of synovial tissues from people with osteoarthritis and healthy populations were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.
