Objectives: The development of valuable artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with ultrasound diagnosis depends on algorithms developed using high-quality data. This study aimed to test the intra- and interobserver agreement of a proposed image-quality scoring system to quantify the quality of gynecological transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) images, which could be used in clinical practice and AI tool development.

Methods: A proposed scoring system to quantify TVS image quality was created following a review of the literature.

In short-term ordered recall tasks, phonological similarity impedes item and order recall, while semantic similarity benefits item recall with a weak or null effect on order recall. Ishiguro and Saito recently suggested that these contradictory findings were due to an inadequate assessment of semantic similarity. They proposed a novel measure of semantic similarity based on the distance between items in a three-dimensional space composed of the semantic dimensions of valence, arousal, and dominance.

Purpose: Emergency laparotomy (EL) is a high-risk procedure, especially in frail patients. This study investigates the prevalence of frailty in referral facilities, evaluates the impact of frailty on postoperative morbidity and mortality, and assesses the long-term effect of EL on patients' functional status.

Methods: This prospective multicentre cohort study included patients aged 50 years and older who underwent EL.

Influence of Added Cellulose Nanocrystals on the Rheology of Polymers.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON N2L 3G1, Canada.

The interactions between cellulose nanocrystals and six different polymers (three anionic, two non-ionic, and one cationic) were investigated using rheological measurements of aqueous solutions of nanocrystals and polymers. The experimental viscosity data could be described adequately by a power-law model. The variations in power-law parameters (consistency index and flow behavior index) with concentrations of nanocrystals and polymers were determined for different combinations of nanocrystals and polymers.

Background: This study evaluated the effects of resistance training (RT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in hypertensive older adults undergoing pharmacological therapy over four and eight weeks. We compared the efficacy of RT and HIIT in reducing non-responders (NRs) between weeks 4 and 8 and analyzed time-course adaptations in NRs and responders (Rs).

Methods: Thirty-nine participants were randomized into RT-G ( = 13), HIIT-G ( = 13), or control (CG, = 13) groups.
