Metabolically stable apelin analogs: development and functional role in water balance and cardiovascular function.

Clin Sci (Lond)

Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Biology, College de France, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale, Paris, France.

Apelin, a (neuro) vasoactive peptide, plays a prominent role in controlling water balance and cardiovascular functions. Apelin and its receptor co-localize with vasopressin in magnocellular vasopressinergic neurons. Apelin receptors (Apelin-Rs) are also expressed in the collecting ducts of the kidney, where vasopressin type 2 receptors are also present.

Background: Rare diseases (RDs) are a heterogeneous group of complex and low-prevalence conditions in which the time to establish a definitive diagnosis is often too long. In addition, for most RDs, few to no treatments are available and it is often difficult to find a specialized care team.

Objectives: The project "acERca las enfermedades raras" (in English: "bringing RDs closer") is an initiative primary designed to generate a consensus by a multidisciplinary group of experts to detect the strengths and weaknesses in the public healthcare system concerning the comprehensive care of persons living with a RD (PLWRD) in the region of Catalonia, Spain, where a Network of Clinical Expert Units (Xarxa d'Unitats de Expertesa Clínica or XUEC) was created and is being implemented since 2015.

Objective: Loss of function of the phospholipid scramblase (PLS) TMEM16F results in Scott Syndrome, a hereditary bleeding disorder generally attributed to intrinsic platelet dysfunction. The role of TMEM16F in endothelial cells, however, is not well understood. We sought to test the hypothesis that endothelial TMEM16F contributes to hemostasis by measuring bleeding time and venous clotting in endothelial-specific knockout (ECKO) mice.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine if tranexamic acid (TXA) can assist in improving outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cu! repair (RCR).

Methods: The databases of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CENTRAL, and Scopus were searched for all types of studies examining the e"cacy of TXA for arthroscopic RCR. Twelve studies, 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and 2 retrospective studies were considered eligible.

An antibacterial, antioxidant and hemostatic hydrogel accelerates infectious wound healing.

J Nanobiotechnology

January 2025

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Xinqiao Hospital, Army Medical University, Chongqing, 400037, China.

Hydrogel drug-delivery system that can effectively load antibacterial drugs, realize the in-situ drug release in the microenvironment of wound infection to promote wound healing. In this study, a multifunctional hydrogel drug delivery system (HA@TA-Okra) was constructed through the integration of hyaluronic acid methacrylate (HAMA) matrix with tannic acid (TA) and okra extract. The composition and structural characteristics of HA@TA-Okra system and its unique advantages in the treatment of diverse wounds were systematically evaluated.
