Background And Purpose: A cost minimization analysis of radiotherapy (RT), laser microsurgery (L) or partial laryngectomy (PL), which are equally effective options for T1N0 glottic SCC was carried out from the perspective of the National Health Care System.

Methods: For each modality, the various events associated with the diagnostic procedure, the primary treatment, the complications, and the salvage treatment were individualized. The charges of each of these events weighted for the frequency of occurrence were then determined using the 'fee for service' policy established by the National Health Insurance of Belgium.

Results: A total cost of 5172, 5847 and 11563 EURO were calculated for RT, L and PL, respectively. For L, cost included post-operative RT applied in case of positive margins (30%). For PL, the cost of the primary treatment accounted for 68% of the total cost whereas it only accounted for 50 and 43% for L and RT, respectively. For RT, L or PL, complications accounted for less than 10% of the total cost. The cost of salvage treatment reached 19, 14 and 8% of the total cost for RT, L and PL, respectively. A sensitivity analysis indicated that reduction of the duration of hospitalization decreases the costs without affecting the ranking between the three options. Also, the cost of L could be reduced even slightly below the cost of RT by decreasing the need for post-operative RT.

Conclusions: RT and L have almost the same expected average cost for the treatment of T1N0 glottic SCC, whereas PL is twice as expensive.

Study Objectives: This study assessed the utilization of potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) including oral sedative-hypnotic and atypical antipsychotic (OSHAA), healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), and costs among elderly individuals with insomnia and in the subpopulation with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) who also had a diagnosis of insomnia.

Methods: Using claims database containing International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) codes, the cohort included individuals aged ≥ 65 with incident insomnia (EI, N=152,969) and AD insomnia subpopulation (ADI, N=4,888). Proportion of patients utilizing atypical antipsychotics or oral sedative-hypnotic medications, namely z-drugs, benzodiazepines, doxepin, Dual Orexin Receptor Antagonists (DORAs), and melatonin agonists, were assessed.

Evaluation of the evidence-based practices for the management of PCOS in the Latin America context: the consensus of the Latin American Association of Gynecological Endocrinology (ALEG).

Gynecol Endocrinol

December 2025

Universidad Finis Terrae, Unidad de Medicina Reprodutiva de Clínicas MEDS y Asociación Latinoamericana de Endocrinología Ginecológica (ALEG), Santiago de Chile, Chile.

Objectives: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition affecting approximately 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. However, limited data are available regarding the specific characteristics and needs of women with PCOS in Latin America. This consensus sought to evaluate the evidence-based practices for the management of PCOS for Latin American populations, consolidate regional insights, identify eventual gaps in implementation and identify key research opportunities.

Background: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was regarded as a cost-efficient and reliable clinical surrogate marker for insulin resistance (IR), which was significantly correlated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the TyG index and incident CVD in non-diabetic hypertension patients remains uncertain. The aim of study was to explore the impact of TyG index level and variability on risk of CVD among non-diabetic hypertension patients.

This study aims to compare the efficacy of laparoscopic cholecystectomy combined with laparoscopic transcystic common bile duct exploration (LTCBDE), laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE), and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the treatment of gallbladder stones with common bile duct stones. We conducted a retrospective comparative analysis based on surgical time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative recovery metrics, total hospitalization costs, gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) before and after surgery, and the incidence of postoperative complications. No significant differences were found among the three groups in terms of the surgical success rate, first stone clearance rate, intraoperative blood loss, incidence of postoperative complications, and stone recurrence rate (p > 0.

Metabolic syndrome (Mets) in adolescents is a growing public health issue linked to obesity, hypertension, and insulin resistance, increasing risks of cardiovascular disease and mental health problems. Early detection and intervention are crucial but often hindered by complex diagnostic requirements. This study aims to develop a predictive model using NHANES data, excluding biochemical indicators, to provide a simple, cost-effective tool for large-scale, non-medical screening and early prevention of adolescent MetS.
