We present a new approach to the theory of large-scale solar eruptive phenomena such as coronal mass ejections and two-ribbon flares, in which twisted flux tubes play a crucial role. We show that it is possible to create a highly nonlinear three-dimensional force-free configuration consisting of a twisted magnetic flux rope representing the magnetic structure of a prominence (surrounded by an overlaying, almost potential, arcade) and exhibiting an S-shaped structure, as observed in soft X-ray sigmoid structures. We also show that this magnetic configuration cannot stay in equilibrium and that a considerable amount of magnetic energy is released during its disruption. Unlike most previous models, the amount of magnetic energy stored in the configuration prior to its disruption is so large that it may become comparable to the energy of the open field.

Emergent Symmetry and Valley Chern Insulator in Twisted Double-Bilayer Graphene.

Theoretical calculations show that twisted double bilayer graphene (TDBG) under a transverse electric field develops a valley Chern number 2 at charge neutrality. Using thermodynamic and thermal activation measurements we report the experimental observation of a universal closing of the charge neutrality gap in the Hofstadter spectrum of TDBG at 1/2 magnetic flux per unit cell, in agreement with theoretical predictions for a valley Chern number 2 gap. Our theoretical analysis of the experimental data shows that the interaction energy, while larger than the flat-band bandwidth in TDBG near 1° does not alter the emergent valley symmetry or the single-particle band topology.

Spinless topological chirality from Umklapp scattering in twisted 3D structures.

Spinless systems exhibit unique topological characteristics compared to spinful ones, stemming from their distinct algebra. Without chiral interactions typically linked to spin, an intriguing yet unexplored interplay between topological and structural chirality may be anticipated. Here we discover spinless topological chiralities solely from structural chiralities that lie in the 3D spatial patterning of structureless units, exemplified using two types of twisted graphite systems.

In this study, a novel class of spatially non-uniformly correlated beams called twisted hyperbolic-sine-correlated (THSC) beams is introduced. The coherence structure of such beam sources is characterized by a hyperbolic sine function with a high-order twist phase embedded in its argument. The propagation properties of the THSC beams are numerically examined in detail.

Identification of the breaking point for the chemical bond is essential for our understanding of chemical reactivity. The current consensus is that a point of maximal electron delocalization along the bonding axis separates the different bonding regimes of reactants and products. This maximum transition point has been investigated previously through the total position spread and the bond-parallel components of the static polarizability tensor for describing covalent bond breaking.

Vortex Spin Liquid with Fractional Quantum Spin Hall Effect in Moiré Chern Bands.

Phys Rev Lett

William H. Miller III Department of Physics and Astronomy, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, 21218, USA.

Recently there is a report of the experimental signatures of a fractional quantum spin hall (FQSH) state at hole filling n=3 in a twisted MoTe_{2} bilayer. Previous theories of FQSH phases simply considered a decoupled pair of a fractional quantum Hall phase and its time reversal partner. Here, we show the first construction of an FQSH phase beyond the decoupling picture.
