The purpose of the present work is the study of ecdysteroid distribution in annual and perennial Silene species during development. The experimental approach included the measurement of ecdysteroid levels in different plant organs and an evaluation of the contribution of individual organs to the total amount of 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) produced by the plant. The highest concentrations of 20E were observed in reproductive organs. High levels were also found in leaves with lower levels in stems. Maximal ecdysteroid content for aerial parts was observed during periods of intense growth: at budding or flowering in annual species, and during vegetative growth or budding in perennial species. The contribution of the different organs to the overall ecdysteroid content changes during plant development. Leaves represent the main part of plant mass and 20E content. Reproductive organs represent a relatively small mass, but they contain high concentrations of ecdysteroids and, in terms of the amount of 20E they contain, their contribution is equal to that of stems. Arch.

Background: Litter size in mice is an important fitness and economic feature that is controlled by several genes and influenced by non-genetic factors too. High positive selection pressure in each generation for Litter size at birth (LSB), resulted in the development of high and low prolific lines of inbred Swiss albino mice (SAM). Despite uniform management conditions, these lines showed variability in LSB across the generation.

The steroid hormone progesterone (P4) regulates multiple aspects of reproductive and metabolic physiology. Classical P4 signaling operates through nuclear receptors that regulate transcription. In addition, P4 signals through membrane P4 receptors (mPRs) in a rapid nongenomic modality.

In cervical cancer screening, cytology is used as a triage test to refer high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV)-positive women for colposcopy, but its accuracy is inadequate. The present study aimed to demonstrate that the presence of atypical cells with large vacuoles in the cytoplasm of parabasal cells, referred to as vacuolated parabasal cells (VPCs), which are observed in the Pap smears of HPV-positive women, is associated with specific HPV genotypes. Among 2175 patients, 310 with a single HR-HPV infection and cytological diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) or atypical squamous cells not excluding HSIL (ASC-H) were included, of which 86 were infected with HPV16.

Notably, a series of such predation events have been reported from South Africa over the last decade, with killer whales specifically targeting sharks' liver. However, observations of these interactions are rare, and knowledge of their frequency across the world's oceans remains limited.

Epidemiological evidence suggests that post-menopausal women are more susceptible to HIV infection following sexual intercourse than are younger cohorts for reasons that remain unclear. Here, we evaluated how menopause-associated changes in CD4 T cell numbers and subsets as well as HIV coreceptor expression, particularly CCR5, in the endometrium (EM), endocervix (CX), and ectocervix (ECX) may alter HIV infection susceptibility. Using a tissue-specific mixed cell infection model, we demonstrate that while no changes in CD14 macrophage infection susceptibility were observed, CD4 T cell HIV-1 infection frequency increases following menopause in the EM, but not CX nor ECX.
