Intracranial pressure has been monitored in ten patients with Reye syndrome. All of the patients were comatose and all were treated with dexamethasone, mannitol, hyperventilation, and multiple exchange transfusions. Five of these children are alive and well; five died. In each case ICP monitoring allowed for immediate treatment and evaluation of the mode of therapy used to reduce elevated ICP. Exchange transfusions in all patients either reduced the increased ICP or made the pressure rises easier to manage. ICP is not always reflected by lumbar spinal fluid pressure or clinical state. In our hands, ICP monitoring has proved to be a safe technique for the investigation of the significance of raised ICP in the outcome of patients with Reye syndrome and of the effectiveness of a chosen therapy in reducing this pressure.

Epidemiological studies have found 2 significant factors associated with the increased incidence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD): the increased use of acetaminophen in the 1970s when this drug largely replaced the use of aspirin for many patients because of a fear of Reye syndrome, and the agricultural use in the 1990s of the herbicide glyphosate on crops that were genetically modified (GM) to tolerate glyphosate. The incidence of autism in the United States, where acetaminophen is widely available, is more than 1000 times greater than in Cuba, where acetaminophen is available only by prescription. Metabolites of both glyphosate and acetaminophen likely alter the function of the developmental protein sonic hedgehog (SHH).

Introduction: Contrasting with the lymphopenia classically reported after administration of glucocorticoids, a lymphocytosis has been sometimes observed in patients after glucocorticoid administration. We here determine prospectively the timing and magnitude of methylprednisolone (mPDN)-induced lymphocytosis and study the effects of concomitant propranolol administration on lymphocyte count (Ly).
Methods: Ly was measured before and 24 to 72hours after initiating mPDN treatment in 20 patients with immune-mediated inflammatory disorders (IMID).

Purpose: The purpose was to describe a technique to promote false lumen (FL) thrombosis in post-dissection thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (PD-TAAAs) managed by fenestrated/branched endografting (F/B-EVAR).
Technique: A 5/6Fr-90 cm length sheath is advanced from the true lumen (TL) to FL through the most distal entry tear of the infrarenal aorta or iliac arteries. It is parked in the most cranial portion of the FL in the thoracic aorta.

Carnitine palmitoyltransferase I (CPT I) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder causing long-chain fatty acid oxidation defect, characterized by metabolic decompensation episodes accompanied by hypoketotic hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, seizures, renal tubular acidosis, and hyperammonemia. The aim of this study was to investigate the neurological symptoms in CPT I deficiency and different outcomes with respect to predisposing factors for sequela and to draw attention to the neurological impairment that may develop during the course of the disease. The retrospective study reviewed clinical characteristics of 14 patients.
