The rate and equilibrium constants for the pH-dependent hydration of a series of monoacylated anthocyanins semi-biosynthesized using a wild carrot suspension culture have been measured. The features of the acyl groups that decrease the hydration and thus decrease the loss of color of these anthocyanins are the presence of the side-chain double bond of the cinnamic acids and the presence of electron-donating substituents at the para-position of the acyl group. Methoxyl groups in the meta-position of the acyl groups have a greater effect than can be explained by their effects on the electron density in the acyl group. The data also suggest that there may be additional features of the acyl groups which contribute to the color retention in anthocyanins.

Unlabelled: Streptolysin O (SLO) is a virulence determinant of group A (), the agent of streptococcal sore throat and severe invasive infections. SLO is a member of a family of bacterial pore-forming toxins known as cholesterol-dependent cytolysins, which require cell membrane cholesterol for pore formation. While cholesterol is essential for cytolytic activity, accumulating data suggest that cell surface glycans may also participate in the binding of SLO and other cholesterol-dependent cytolysins to host cells.

We performed all-atom and coarse-grained simulations of lipid bilayer mixtures of the unsaturated lipid DOPC, with saturated lipids having the same 18-carbon acyl tails and different headgroups, to understand their mechanical properties. The secondary lipids were DSPG, DSPA, DSPS, DSPC, and DSPE. The DOPC:DSPG system with 65:35 molar ratio was the softest, with area compressibility modulus ∼ 22% smaller than the pure DOPC value.

Background: Although multimodality treatment, including chemoradiotherapy and surgery has significantly improved the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), a valid predictor is crucial for individualized treatment. As acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) are key genes with radiation responses and constituents of the ferroptosis signaling pathway, the present study adopted ACSL4 and GPX4 protein expression to explore their predictive and prognostic value in patients with ESCC receiving adjuvant radiotherapy.
Methods: A total of 108 patients with thoracic ESCC who had undergone radical surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy were enrolled in the present retrospectively study.

Mitochondrial dysfunctions are closely associated with different types of disease, including cancer. Carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT) is a mitochondrial-localized enzyme catalyzing the reversible transfer of acyl groups from an acyl-CoA thioester to carnitine and regulates the ratio of acyl-CoA/CoA. Our bioinformatics analysis using public database revealed a significant decrease of CRAT expression in ovarian cancer (OC).

Objective: Both adolescents with obesity and those with type 1 diabetes (T1D) exhibit alterations in lipid profiles, but direct comparisons are limited. Comparing lipidomic profiles between obese individuals and those with T1D is crucial for identifying specific metabolic markers, informing tailored interventions, and advancing precision medicine strategies for these distinct populations. The aim of the study was to compare lipidomic profiles between adolescents with obesity and those with T1D, and to analyze associations between metabolites and clinical parameters.
