On the basis of 500 epileptic patients treated in the Out-Patient Department of the "Instituto de Neurología", Hospital de Clínicas, Montevideo, Uruguay, an epidemiological study is undertaken. Data obtained correspond to the period extending between 1965 and 1975. A precodified data registering system was used and the analysis was done by mechanical processes. It is mainly a descriptive analysis of the group of patients and their seizures, including 20 items. As far as social aspects are concerned, education levels and occupation are analyzed, encountering similar levels as those of the general population in this country. As to etiological factors, a high incidence of familiar history of epilepsy (17%) and of perinatal pathology (19%) is found. An analytical study of the seizures and their provoking factors is performed. Etiological factors are analyzed dividing the patients in two groups according to the age of beginning of seizures (before or after 25 years) and in the younger groups perinatal factors and epilepsy of unknown origin predominate, while in the older group vascular and tumoral causes are more frequent.

Cervical subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum without pneumothorax are exceedingly rare complications following rhinoplasty, with limited cases reported in the literature. This report presents a case of revision septorhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage, where the patient complained of a sore throat 36 hours postoperatively. On physical examination, cervical subcutaneous emphysema was palpated, and radiologic evaluation confirmed both cervical subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum.

Empirical design of population health strategies accounting for the distribution of population health risks.

Recent discussions in epidemiology have emphasised the need to estimate the heterogeneous effects of risk factors across the distribution of health outcomes for better aetiological understanding of the determinants of population health. We propose using quantile regression-based decomposition to expand the empirical discussion on population health intervention strategies for health equity by incorporating population homogeneity/heterogeneity in the risk-outcome association. We theorised that the 'proportionate universalism' approach presumes population homogeneity in the risk-outcome association with varying risk intensities, which decomposition analysis shows as the 'covariates part' between groups.

Because oral lesions can develop from various etiological factors, it is of utmost importance to obtain a comprehensive history and oral examination. Fellatio is a commonly practiced sexual act, which may result in submucosal hemorrhage of the palate. The lesions are asymptomatic and typically appear on the soft palate.

As one of the three major malignant tumors in women, the morbidity of endometrial cancer is second only to that of cervical cancer and is increasing yearly. Its etiological mechanism is not clear, and the risk factors are numerous and common and are closely related to obesity, hypertension, diabetes, etc. The gut microbiota has many strains, which play a considerable part in normal digestion and absorption in the human body and the regulation of the immune response.
